RESUMO Após uma discussão do debate em direção à classe em uma sociedade industrial, este artigo faz uma análise detalhada do impacto do crescimento do setor de serviços na formação das ideias de classe nas sociedades contemporâneas, com ênfase especial nos padrões de emprego nos EUA e na América Latina. A validade da Lei do Valor nas sociedades modernas também é discutida.

ABSTRACT After a discussion of the debate towards class in an industrial society, this article goes into a detailed analysis of the impact of the growth of the services sector in shaping the ideas of class in contemporary societies, with special emphasis on employment patterns in the USA and in Latin America. The validity of the Law of Value in modern societies is also discussed.

RESUMO Este artigo é um relato detalhado da abordagem estruturalista para a análise do modo de produção capitalista (e consequentemente, da alternativa socialista) na América Latina, conforme desenvolvido sob o debate coletivo da CEPAL. Tendências de crescimento, abertura ao investimento e comércio estrangeiros, estilos de desenvolvimento e análise estatística são todos considerados.

ABSTRACT This piece is a detailed account of the structuralist approach to the analysis of the capitalist (and consequentially, the socialist alternative) way of production in Latin America, as developed under the collective debate of the ECLAC. Trends of growth, openness to foreign investment and trade, styles of development and statistical analysis are all considered.

RESUMO Este trabalho gira em torno da busca por um arcabouço conceitual para o estudo da formulação de políticas agrícolas no Brasil usando a metodologia da nova economia política. Mesmo sob a ditadura militar, a análise fornece insights sobre uma multiplicidade de grupos de interesse e setores trabalhando sob o arcabouço estatal.

ABSTRACT This work revolves around the search for a conceptual framework for the study of the formulation of agricultural policies in Brazil using the new political economy methodology. Even under the military dictatorship, the analysis provides insights into a multiplicity of groups of interest and sectors working under the state framework.

RESUMO Na região Nordeste do Brasil, a força de trabalho tem sido historicamente subutilizada. Estudos recentes têm mostrado que não apenas essa subutilização está crescendo, mas também a qualidade do trabalho não está melhorando. Este trabalho tem dois objetivos. Por um lado, discute como há uma relação estreita entre as relações de produção e a utilização da força de trabalho, enquanto por outro lado debate os impactos das mudanças nessas relações de produção.

ABSTRACT In the Northeastern region of Brazil, the labor force has been historically underutilized. Recent studies have shown that not only this underutilization is growing, but also the quality of work is not improving as well. This work has two objectives. On the one hand, it discusses how there is a close relationship between the production relations and the utilization of the labor force, while on the other hand it debates the impacts of changes in these production relations.

RESUMO Após anos de estímulo ao endividamento externo, desde 1976 o governo brasileiro tem enfrentado grande dificuldade em fechar as lacunas no balanço de pagamentos. Novas políticas monetárias foram emitidas desde 1979, sob a orientação da teoria econômica mais ortodoxa. Neste artigo, discutimos a dificuldade da política ortodoxa em apresentar resultados e reduzir a inflação no Brasil.

ABSTRACT After years of stimulus to foreign indebtment, since 1976 the Brazilian government has been under great difficulty in closing the gaps in the balance of payments. New monetary policies have been issued since 1979, under the most orthodox economic theory guidance. In this paper, we discuss the difficulty in the orthodox policy to present results and lowering inflation in Brazil.
