Open-access The America Cup goes to the countryside: the media coverage of the reforms of the “Parque Artigas” stadium in Paysandú - Uruguay (1994-1995)

This article addresses the media coverage of the renovations made to the 'Parque Artigas' stadium in the city of Paysandú for the 1995 Copa América held in Uruguay. Its aim is to analyze how the event was portrayed through the pages of a local newspaper and a national one. Through the documentary study of different news, the article highlights the importance of the press as a shaper of public opinion through the construction of various narratives surrounding the renovation process, as well as the tension between media outlets and their connection to local and national identity-building processes.
