Basic Information

The Revista Soldagem & Inspeção was launched in 1995, in a printed edition distributed quarterly, free of charge, to associates and several libraries in Brazil and Iberian and Latin American countries. Since the first issue of 2009, the journal has been made available electronically on the Internet, with open access at www.scielo.br/j/si/. Since its creation, numerous renowned professionals in the field of welding have contributed to the Revista Soldagem & Inspeção, and its editorial board crosses the Brazilian borders. The journal’s development has benefited from the special contributions of its former Editors-in-Chief: Professors Ronaldo Paranhos, Américo Scotti, Paulo Modenesi, Alexandre Bracarense, Ana Sofia C. M. d’Oliveira, Paulo Cesar Okimoto, and José Mazzaferro. Currently, the Editors-in-Chief are Professors Hélio Cordeiro de Miranda and Cleiton Carvalho Silva, both from the Federal University of Ceará. The Revista Soldagem & Inspeção also counts on the support of 13 Associate Editors, a permanent Editorial Board, and occasional ad hoc members. The abbreviated title of the journal is Rev. Soldag. Insp., which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references, and bibliographic captions. |
Open Access & Intellectual Property

This journal follows the Open Access model, allowing unrestricted virtual access (including free access) to all scientific articles published by the journal. Open access refers to the condition in which the copyright holder of an academic work grants usage rights to third parties through an open license (Creative Commons Attribution, CC BY). This allows immediate and free access to the work, authorizing any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, index them, transfer them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose. |

With a commitment to upholding best practices in scholarly publishing and ethical conduct, the editors and editorial team of the Revista Soldagem & Inspeção are dedicated to preventing unethical behavior in all forms. Examples of such misconduct include plagiarism and self-plagiarism, duplicate and/or redundant publication, and data fabrication or falsification. Therefore, upon submission, authors are required to declare that the content of the manuscript is original and affirm that the work has not been published or is under review in any other journal. The Revista Soldagem & Inspeção adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), thereby following standardized and internationally recognized ethical practices in addressing publication-related issues. These include managing conflicts of interest, privacy, and consent, as well as establishing standardized procedures for handling potential cases of misconduct in publishing. |
Focus and Scope

The Revista Soldagem & Inspeção is a technical-scientific journal published on a continuous basis, aimed at disseminating original articles in the fields of welding, inspection, and related processes. Its primary target audience consists of researchers from Portuguese-, English-, and Spanish-speaking countries. Currently, the interval between submission and possible final approval is approximately six months, with the entire process, including author revisions, submission for graphic editing, and other steps, being completed within roughly two to four months. The submission and acceptance dates are indicated on the first page of each article. |

In line with SciELO’s Open Science Policy, the Revista Soldagem & Inspeção accepts submissions of preprints from the SciELO Preprints platform, which may be deposited either prior to or simultaneously with journal submission. It is important to note that sharing a preprint on this server does not count as prior publication. In the case of a preprint publication, the Open Science Compliance Form must be completed and submitted as a supplementary file along with the manuscript. A preprint is defined as a manuscript ready for submission to a journal and deposited on a trusted preprint server before or in parallel with journal submission. This practice, along with continuous publication, is a means to accelerate the communication of research. |
Peer Review Process
|
All articles submitted for publication undergo an initial evaluation by one of the Editors-in-Chief and one of the Associate Editors, who are researchers specializing in different subfields of welding technology, inspection, and related operations. Upon recognizing the merit of a submission, the Associate Editors forward the manuscript to members of the Editorial Board. For publication, approval from at least two members of the Editorial Board is required. The entire process is overseen by the Editor-in-Chief. The Editorial Board operates independently and is composed of researchers with a minimum qualification of a doctoral degree and recognized expertise in the field. The board represents various regions of the country, as well as key Portuguese-, English-, and Spanish-speaking countries in the field of welding technology. When an article falls within a highly specific area, ad hoc reviewers are selected and invited to provide evaluations. If both parties agree, the review process may include direct interaction between the reviewers and the authors. Authors interested in this mode of review may indicate their preference using the Open Science Compliance Form. Reviewers should communicate their intentions through the manuscript submission system. In accordance with Open Science practices, the name of the editor responsible for evaluating the article will be published with the article (applicable only to submissions made from June 2025 onward). Additionally, by mutual agreement, reviewers and authors may request or accept the publication of the review reports for approved articles, with optional identification of reviewers and open sharing of identities during the review process. |
Editorial Process

The Editorial Board members of the Revista Soldagem & Inspeção review all submitted manuscripts, assessing, among other aspects, the relevance of the topic, originality, and the presentation of results. They then issue their evaluations to the journal's editorial office using a designated form, identifying the manuscript and assigning only one of the following recommendations:

Open Data
|
In addition to scientific literature, Soldagem & Inspeção is committed to the guidelines of the SciELO Journals’ Guidelines for Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) in Journal Policies and Practices. Therefore, the journal encourages authors to cite related content such as data, codes, methods, and other materials used or generated by the research, aiming to enhance understanding of the study and facilitate its evaluation through data repositories. Authors may choose to use their institution’s data repository or select, for example, a repository from SciELO’s List of Research Data Repositories. One suggested option is SciELO Data. If authors opt to use SciELO Data, the following links may be helpful: Research Data Preparation Guide and Research Data Deposit Guide. Authors may choose to keep these files closed until the article is approved and published. The corresponding author must indicate whether the manuscript cites data, program codes, and other materials underlying the article, along with their respective URLs. To this end, the Revista Soldagem & Inspeção requires the Open Science Compliance Form to be properly completed and submitted as a supplementary file for review. The Revista Soldagem & Inspeção operates under an Open Access model, allowing free reading, downloading, and distribution. The journal does not charge any fees for the submission, review, editing, or publication processes |
Ethics Policy and Misconduct, Errata, and Retraction
|
Misconduct
Errata and Addendum If a significant error is detected in a published article (i.e., an error that compromises the readers’ understanding of the content), authors must immediately inform the journal. In such cases, an erratum will be published detailing the necessary corrections. Likewise, when there is a need to add relevant information to the content of a published article without altering the original content, the journal may publish an addendum.
Retraction The Revista Soldagem & Inspeção retraction policy follows the SciELO Guide for the Publication of Retractions. The retraction will be clearly marked as such and linked to the original article on the journal’s website, ensuring transparency and preserving the integrity of the academic record. |
Conflict of Interest Policy
|
Conflicts of interest may be of a personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial nature. Conflicts of interest can arise when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. Upon submitting the manuscript, authors are responsible for recognizing and disclosing any financial or other conflicts of interest that may have influenced the work. If there is a conflict of interest, even if only potential, the author(s) must report it in a specific document, signed and attached to the submission platform as a supplementary file. |
Adoption of similarity checking software
|
Starting in June 2025, at the beginning of the editorial evaluation process and prior to the peer review stage, all manuscripts submitted to Revista Soldagem & Inspeção will be checked for similarity with previously published works both nationally and internationally using the CopySpider program. This is a free tool that compares the manuscript text to content published on the internet, identifying potential similarities. It is important to highlight that the detection of similarities will not be limited only to the stage before peer review, nor solely to analyses performed by the CopySpider program. Throughout the entire review process, members of the journal’s Editorial Board responsible for evaluating the manuscript may report any detected similarities to the journal’s Secretariat. Manuscripts that present a level of similarity with previously published works deemed inappropriate will be rejected |

Sex and Gender Issues

The editorial team of the Revista Soldagem & Inspeção, as well as the authors who publish in the journal, must always observe the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER). The SAGER guidelines consist of a set of recommendations that guide the reporting of sex and gender information in study design, data analysis, and the results and interpretation of findings. Authors' Contribution
|
The names of all authors must be provided, followed by their respective contributions. For defining contributions, the Revista Soldagem & Inspeção recommends the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). |
Manuscript Preparation
|
Manuscript Organization
Authors must pay careful attention to the documents listed under the “Supplementary Documents” section, which should be attached to the submission whenever deemed necessary, in accordance with the descriptions provided herein. It is recommended to use the Times New Roman font, size 11, double spacing, A4 paper size, and equal margins of 2.5 cm. The main text should be organized into consecutively numbered sections (e.g., 1. Introduction). Each section may be further divided into subsections, numbered according to the decimal system (e.g., 2.1. Experimental Methods). Alternative titles for sections may be used depending on the specific nature of each article. Authors may organize their articles in different ways; however, the Editorial Board of the Revista Soldagem & Inspeção may request modifications if the article format is deemed inappropriate. Manuscript files must be submitted in an editable format (preferably “.doc” or “.docx”) both at the time of submission and during revision. Units The units of the International System (SI) must be used. If other units are mentioned, their equivalent values in SI units should be provided. |
Digital Assets
|
Figures Figures must be numbered, cited (e.g., Figure 1), and inserted within the main text. Each figure should include a caption located below it, describing its content. If the article is accepted for publication, high-quality versions of the figure files (at least 300 dpi) must be submitted. Authors should ensure that a scale bar is included in figures such as images of weld beads, macrographs, and micrographs. The font size used in figures should be consistent with the main text. Figure width should be limited to the equivalent of one text column (approximately 160 mm). The recommended file formats for figures are: “.jpg” or “.jpeg” for photographs; “.png” for graphs, schematics, and screenshots; and “.tiff”.

Tables Tables should be inserted in the main text, in the position that the author consider most convenient, and numbered sequentially, according to the order in which they are cited in the main text. Every table must contain a title, always positioned above (before) the table (without spaces), with a brief description of its content. Tables with more than 8 columns should be avoided
Equations Equations should be numbered according to their order of appearance in the article. It is recommended to justify the equation on the left and the number on the right. |
Bibliographic References
|
Authors should privilege the Vancouver standard. References must be numbered consecutively in the order they appear in the text, with numbers enclosed in brackets (e.g., [1], [1,2], [1,3-5], [3-5]) placed immediately after the relevant word. The same numbering should be used at the end of the article to list the references.
