RBTUR (Revista Brasileira de Pesquisa em Turismo) is a journal of the Brazilian National Association of Research and Postgraduate Studies in Tourism (ANPTUR), created in 2007. Our mission is to disseminate results of consistent, innovative, and relevant scientific research on tourism, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in this field of study and to sustainable socioeconomic development.

RBTUR is an open accessjournal, allowing virtual access, without restrictions (including financial restrictions), to all scientific texts published by the journal.

Open access is the condition in which the copyright holder of a scholarly work grants rights to third parties using an open license (Creative Commons Attribution CC-BY 4.0), allowing immediate free access to the article and authorizing any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of the articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose.

This journal is Gold Open Access. All articles and content are available immediately and free of charge on the RBTUR website. Furthermore, RBTUR adopts and supports the Open Science modus operandi, as proposed by SciELO.

The RBTUR Code of Ethics outlines the basic principles that guide the conduct of all members and partners involved in the publishing process, including authors, reviewers, editors, board members, scientific committee members, proofreaders, translators, and editorial staff.

To be part of and play any role in the RBTUR publication process, it is necessary to agree with the principles of this Code of Ethics, set out below, and position yourself as a reference in terms of conduct and ethical integrity.

The RBTUR Code of Ethics is based on the “Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing” recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the principles of the Directory of Open Accesss Journals (DOAJ), and the principles of the SciELO Codes of Ethics, present in the “Guidelines on Best Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication”.

Authors

• Conduct the research following current legal and ethical standards, including, when necessary, obtaining authorization from the Research Ethics Committee of the organization in which the research was developed.
• Ensure the integrity of the data presented in the article.
• Ensure the authenticity and originality of your article.
• Ensure that you provide appropriate citations and identify the source of any third-party materials.
• Ensure that your article does not contain any defamatory statements and that it does not infringe any intellectual, commercial, or industrial property rights of third parties.
• Ensure that your article is not under review in another journal.
• Declare any potential conflicts of interest generated by your article.
• Immediately report to the editor if you identify errors in the article and contribute to immediate corrections, either before publication or by publishing errata, when the error is identified after the article has been published.
• The author who submits the article must ensure that the authors who sign the manuscript submitted for publication have contributed effectively to its development and writing.

Editors

• Ensure ethical conduct in all processes, including submission, peer review, and publication of the journal.
• Ensure integrity, impartiality, confidentiality, and transparency in the scientific editorial process of articles submitted for publication.
• Ensure quality, originality, rigor, coherence, and diversity of thought in articles approved for publication.
• Ensure ethical conduct, integrity, impartiality, transparency, and agility in communication with the various stakeholders involved in the submission, review, and publication processes.
• Assert the journal's contribution to the advancement of knowledge.
• Ensure the sustainability and development of the journal within the scientific, academic, and business communities.
• Strive for the constant improvement of the journal.
• Establish and manage conflict of interest policies for the various stakeholders involved in the scientific editorial process.
• Define and implement prevention and sanction policies for situations of ethical misconduct.

Members of the Editorial Board

• Ensure that all editors-in-chief, associate editors, editorial staff, and members of journal boards (including the scientific editorial board, editorial board, and ad hoc reviewers) are aware of their role as multipliers, advocates, and practitioners of the RBTUR Code of Ethics, to which they must adhere.
• Ensure ethical conduct in all processes involving submission, peer review, and journal publication.

Members of the Scientific Committee

• Ensure ethical conduct in all processes related to the scientific review of manuscripts submitted for publication.
• Alert the editor-in-chief about similar publications or manuscripts submitted for publication and/or any other information relevant to meeting ethical standards in publication.
• Ensure confidentiality, impartiality, and integrity when carrying out the article review.
• Do not use, under any circumstances, privileged information available to members of the Scientific Committee.
• Suggest suitable reviewers, directly related to and active in the specific topic of the manuscript submitted for publication.
• Effectively contribute to the improvement of the paper, encouraging reviewers to critically review the manuscript, improving and complementing the respective review(s).
• Meet the review deadline agreed with the editor.
• Alert the editor-in-chief to potential conflicts of interest that could jeopardize the integrity of the review process.

Ad hoc reviewers

• Position yourself as a reference in terms of conduct and ethical integrity.
• Ensure confidentiality, impartiality, and integrity when carrying out the article review.
• Do not use, under any circumstances, privileged information available to reviewers.
• Contribute to the effective improvement of the paper with critical and constructive opinions.
• Meet the review deadline agreed with the editor.
• Alert the editor to potential conflicts of interest that could jeopardize the integrity of the review process.
• Alert the editor to similar publications or manuscripts submitted for publication.

RBTUR publishes original articles resulting from relevant, original, and consistent scientific research on tourism. Its primary focus is on research that offers significant conceptual, theoretical, or methodological contributions to tourism. Research developed from different philosophical and methodological perspectives is welcome. RBTUR values articles that contribute to social, economic, cultural, and environmental development in Brazil and Latin America.

To be accepted for publication, articles submitted to RBTUR must have a direct and explicit association with tourism. RBTUR accepts and publishes articles in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. Papers written by any author are accepted, regardless of institutional affiliation or educational level. There is no limit to the number of articles by the same author per year. Articles undergo a blind peer review process. The journal is organized into four main sections:

• Articles - Tourism and Society: publishes articles on social, cultural, and environmental issues related to tourism in different times and spaces. This section encompasses scientific articles on tourism in dialogue with the humanities and social sciences, including history, sociology, education, geography, the arts, anthropology, architecture and urban planning, museology, gastronomy, literature, psychology, philosophy, leisure, mobility, and hospitality.
• Articles - Tourism Management: publishes articles focused on topics related to destination management and tourism businesses. This section naturally encompasses articles on various aspects of these elements, including public policy, public and business administration, economics, organizational management, marketing, behavioral sciences, technology, spatial planning, and other related fields.
• Literature reviews: this section publishes articles that map and systematize existing scientific literature on a given topic, identifying gaps, integrating fragmented approaches, and proposing future research directions. Literature reviews should address topics of established or emerging relevance in the field of tourism with significant accumulated scientific publications.
• Perspectives: this section publishes viewpoints and special articles written by guest authors. These papers are not peer-reviewed.

Articles that present results and discussions limited exclusively to a single object of study (e.g., a destination or a company) are not within the scope of RBTUR. To be of interest to RBTUR, studies based on a single object must begin with that object to discuss concepts, theories, or methods, sparking the interest of a broader readership.

The journal's financial resources are provided by ANPTUR and, occasionally, by public research funding agencies. Our editorial policy adheres to the Open Science modus operandi of research communication. No fees are charged for submission, review, or publication of articles.

This journal adheres to the standards outlined in the Digital Preservation Policy of the SciELO Program.

RBTUR accepts submissions of preprints deposited on the SciELO Preprints and arXiv servers. The editors may consider preprints from other servers. Authors must include the preprint URL in the manuscript file, just below the paper title. The review process for manuscripts deposited as preprints is regular, except that reviewers are aware of the authorship. In the event of publication, authors must register the DOI of the published article on the preprint platform.

Upon submission, articles undergo an editorial review process, in which compliance with the standards defined in the guidelines for authors, the quality of the writing, and the fit within the scope of the journal (i.e., direct association with tourism, relevance, originality, and consistency) are assessed.

Articles approved in the editorial review process undergo peer review. During this stage, the papers are reviewed by at least two researchers with expertise in the topic and/or research method.

The review is conducted in a double-blind or single-blind manner. The reviewers' identities are not disclosed, although the authors' identities may be known to the reviewers in specific cases, such as when preprints are published or the research has been previously disseminated at scientific meetings or in academic theses/dissertations.

Reviewers must not have any conflicts of interest when reviewing the article and must explicitly declare this. The complete list of reviewers of RBTUR is published as the last document of each issue.

Reviewers are advised to pay attention to at least the following aspects of the articles:

• Relevance
• Originality
• Methodological and argumentative consistency
• Quality of the literature review

Finally, the reviewers recommend publication, revision, or rejection of the manuscript. When substantial changes are made in response to the reviewers, the article may be subjected to a new round of review. Articles are only published after receiving favorable opinions from all reviewers.

The Perspectives section publishes special invited papers, which are not peer-reviewed.

The final version of the article, published in the journal, contains the name of the editor responsible for publication.

Manuscripts must be accompanied by a statement of the availability of the data used and generated in the research. Research data refers to the content (numerical data, texts, computer programs, images, audio, videos, etc.) used or generated in the research and underlying the texts of articles organized in archives. The statement of availability of research data can be presented in four ways:

I. Relevant data are available at [URL].

II. All relevant data are available in the text.

III. Data must be requested from the author by email [provide email].

IV. Data are not available for [indicate reason: ethical restrictions, restrictions on copyrights, other - specify].

RBTUR supports the open science movement, seeking to extend this perspective to research data. Therefore, for research articles that include data analysis, whether quantitative or qualitative, it is recommended that the data be made available in a permanent, open-access repository. Declaring that the data is unavailable is recommended only in cases where ethical or proprietary restrictions apply.

This practice aims to increase transparency in published articles and expand the possibilities for further research by using the same data to conduct new analyses. Making data openly available can also contribute to increased citations of the original article.

Data publication must be done in the RBTUR Dataverse in SciELO Data (https://data.scielo.org/dataverse/brrbtur).

RBTUR does not charge any fees to authors or readers, including submission, review, publication, or content access fees.

RBTUR adopts the policies established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for situations of ethical misconduct:

• Suspected duplicate publication
• Suspected similarity
• Suspicion of data fabrication
• Authorship changes (inclusion/exclusion)
• Suspected authorship (“ghost”, “guest” or “gift”)
• Suspected conflict of interest not declared by the author
• Suspected ethical problem in the article submitted for publication
• Suspected inappropriate use of information by the reviewer

RBTUR follows SciELO standards for handling ethical issues, including the Guidelines on Best Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication, the Guide for the Publication of Erratum, the Guide for the Publication of Retraction, and the Guide for the Publication of Addendum.

When submitting a manuscript, authors are responsible for acknowledging and disclosing any conflicts of interest that may have influenced their work. If there is, even potentially, a conflict of interest, the author(s) should disclose it in the "Comments for the Editor" section of the submission platform.

By accepting an invitation to review a manuscript, reviewers declare that they have no conflict of interest.

Conflicts of interest are characterized by personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial interests that may influence an individual's judgment or actions. Conflicts of interest can occur when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that may affect the preparation or review of manuscripts. RBTUR makes discretionary use of software to verify similarity during the editorial review stage of manuscripts. The information provided by the software is analyzed qualitatively. Excerpts with more than five words identical to those of another publication without proper attribution may be considered unacceptable.

RBTUR does not use artificial intelligence (AI) software to process and review manuscripts.

The use of generative AI by authors is accepted in the following cases:

• In the writing or translation processes, in order to improve the readability and language of the manuscript.
• As an object of research. This type of use must be described in detail in the method section of the article.

Technology must be applied with human supervision and control. Authors must carefully review and edit the results, as they are ultimately fully responsible for the content of their articles. Hiding the use and content of AI is an ethical failure that violates the principles of transparency and honesty in research.

The RBTUR editorial team, as well as the authors who publish in this journal, must always adhere to the guidelines of the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER). The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines for reporting sex and gender information in study design, data analysis, and results and interpretation of findings. Furthermore, RBTUR adheres to the gender equity policy when forming its editorial board.

When the research reported in the article requires approval from a Research Ethics Committee, the authors must attach the declaration of approval from the committee of the responsible institution.

Authors of articles published by RBTUR retain copyright to their work, licensing it under the Creative Commons Attribution BY 4.0 license, which allows articles to be reused and distributed without restriction, provided the original article is properly cited. In exchange, they grant RBTUR the right of first publication.

All content of the journal and articles published by RBTUR, except where otherwise specified, are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution BY license.

RBTUR encourages authors to self-archive their accepted manuscripts by publishing them on personal blogs, institutional repositories, and academic social media, as well as posting them on their social media, provided that a full citation to the journal's website version is included.

RBTUR is maintained by the National Association of Research and Postgraduate Studies in Tourism (ANPTUR) with support from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).

RBTUR is an open access journal, and authors are not charged any fees for submission, review, or publication. Our editorial policy adheres to the Open Science modus operandi of research communication.

Articles - Tourism Management

Articles focused on topics related to destination management and tourism businesses. This set naturally encompasses articles on various aspects of these elements, including public policy, public and business administration, economics, organizational management, marketing, behavioral sciences, technology, territorial planning, and other related fields.

Articles - Tourism and Society

Articles related to social, cultural, and environmental issues related to tourism in different times and spaces. This group encompasses scientific articles on tourism in dialogue with the humanities and social sciences, including history, sociology, education, geography, the arts, anthropology, architecture and urban planning, museology, gastronomy, literature, psychology, philosophy, leisure, mobility, and hospitality.

Literature Reviews

Articles must:

• Have the article project previously approved by RBTUR (https://bit.ly/rbtur_rl);
• Address topics of consolidated or emerging relevance in the field of tourism, with significant accumulated scientific production;
• Clearly define the scope of the review;
• Justify the originality and timeliness of the review, considering the lack of similar reviews already published with equivalent scope or approach;
• Emphasize content analysis and discussion - exclusively bibliometric reviews are outside the scope of RBTUR;
• Present and discuss literature in a clear, consistent, concise, and critical manner.

The following characteristics of the articles will be valued:

• Use of recognized literature review methods and protocols;
• Graphic summaries presented through diagrams and schemes;
• Suggestions for future research agendas.

Article Features

RBTUR publishes articles that have:

• Topic directly related to tourism.
• Theoretical relevance.
• Innovative theme or approach as compared to existing literature.
• Consistent research method.

Furthermore, articles published in RBTUR must satisfy the following requirements:

• Not having been published in full, except as an academic work (dissertation or thesis).
• Not be in the process of being reviewed for publication in any other journal or publication.
• Be written in English, Portuguese, or Spanish.
• Have a maximum of 10,000 words (including abstract, references, and all other textual elements).
• Not be subject to any relevant conflict of interest of the authors.
• The images included in the article are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution BY 4.0 public license, or the authors hold the property rights to the images, and they are willing to license them under CC BY 4.0.

The declaration of each author's contributions to the article must follow the CRediT taxonomy: 1. Conceptualization, 2. Data curation, 3. Formal analysis, 4. Funding acquisition, 5. Investigation, 6. Methodology, 7. Project administration, 8. Resources, 9. Software, 10. Supervision, 11. Validation, 12. Visualization, 13. Writing - original draft, 14. Writing - review & editing.

The list of authors should include only those who contributed to at least the conceptualization, formal analysis, investigation, or methodology, in addition to having contributed to the writing (activity 13 or 14).

Authors must ensure that the data analyzed is legitimate. When necessary, they must ensure that the research has been approved by the appropriate bodies (e.g., Ethics Committee).

All authors agree to review articles submitted to RBTUR when invited. If invited, they must act with dedication, promptness, and integrity.

Furthermore, they undertake to make corrections or retractions after publication if errors are identified.

The main article file must be sent in Word (.doc/.docx) or OpenDocument Text (.odt) format, with a maximum file size of 5 MB.

All possible measures must be taken to ensure that the author(s) are not identified during the review process:

• Do not include the authors' names in the manuscript.
• Do not use language that reveals authorship through citations (e.g., “Another similar study has already been published by the same author (SILVA, 1999)”).
• Do not mention funding, grants, collaborations, or acknowledgments. If accepted for publication, these items must be included in the Information and Declarations Form for Article Publication.
• Do not disclose the authors' identity in the file properties.

Articles must contain the following elements:

• Title: Available in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Objective titles are preferred.
• Abstract: in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Maximum of 200 words.
• Keywords: list of 3 to 5 terms in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
• References: a complete and exclusive list of works cited throughout the text.

RBTUR adopts a minimum formatting requirement policy for article submissions. There are no standard formatting requirements for sources, paragraphs, or pages. Only a few mandatory formatting rules must be followed:

• Long quotations, with more than three lines, must appear in separate paragraphs with a 4 cm indent from the left margin.
• Manuscript section titles should be numbered sequentially.

• Tables, charts, and figures must be numbered, titled, and referenced in the text.
• Tables, charts, and formulas must be presented in an editable format.
• Graphs and diagrams should preferably be drawn on a white background and use Calibri font, normal, size 10, black.
• All images must be presented in sufficient definition for perfect viewing at 100% zoom.
• Texts in images must be readable at 100% zoom.
• Footnotes should only be used if they are essential.

Citations throughout the text and the list of references for cited works at the end of the text should follow the 7th edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) standards. The following guidelines are recommended:

In-text citations should follow the author/year system. Direct citations should also indicate the page number(s).

Article submissions must be made through RBTUR's electronic editorial system. When logging in, access your author profile and select "Start new submission."

Ensure that all authors are registered in the article's submission. Author inclusion after submission will not be accepted. The order in which authors are included in the system must be the same as that which will appear in the published article.

The editorial process can be monitored in the RBTUR electronic editorial system.

A revised version of the article, incorporating the adjustments requested by the reviewers, must be submitted within the existing record, without initiating a new submission in the system. Submission should be made through the  'Upload file' button in the 'Review' tab.

If approved for publication, authors will be asked to complete and sign the Information and Declarations for Article Publication Form available at this link. The form contains information about authorship and contributions, acknowledgments, funding sources, preprints, data availability, copyrights, personal image rights of individuals, research approval by an ethics committee, conflicts of interest, and use of artificial intelligence, among other information.

The final version of the approved article will be published with the name of the editor or editors responsible for the manuscript review process.

Authors must declare any funding received for their research using the Information and Declarations for Article Publication Form, which must be completed and signed after acceptance for publication. This information will be included in the final version of the article.
