Brief Background
|
Pesquisa Operacional (POpe) is published by the Brazilian Operations Research Society (SOBRAPO) and was initially called REVISTA BRASILEIRA DE PESQUISA OPERACIONAL. The abbreviated title of the journal is Pesq. Oper., which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes and bibliographic references and strips. POpe began to be published in 1981. It was published biannually from 1981 to 2002. From 2003 onwards, the publication became quarterly. From 2020 onwards, it has been published only online, with an annual volume and in a continuous flow format. |
Open Science
|
This journal follows the Open Access model, allowing unrestricted virtual access (including financial restrictions) to all scientific texts published by the journal. Open access is the condition in which the copyright holder of an academic work grants usage rights to third parties using an open license (Creative Commons Attribution, CC-BY), allowing immediate free access to the work and authorizing any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose. |
Open Science Compliance
|
POpe follows the Gold Open Access model. In addition to open access to published research results, the Journal makes public the procedures adopted by editors, reviewers and authors related to the evaluation of manuscripts. In addition to originality and relevance, the quality of the presentation (clarity, style and organization of the text) and the suitability of the text to the interests of the journal's readership will be taken into account. Authors are guided to make their research data fully available. |

POpe endorses the COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). POpe follows the COPE guidelines whenever it becomes aware of any harmful or criminal action by authors or other participants in the publication process relating to the integrity of the research itself or any other aspect that may affect the research or its publication. |
Focus and Scope

POpe serves as a platform for the Operations Research (OR) scientific community. Our primary mission is to promote integration and to disseminate original scientific knowledge and technical advancements generated across all OR sub-disciplines. We particularly encourage submissions that demonstrate methodological advances and applications in fields such as Discrete Optimization, Combinatorial Theory, Manufacturing Systems, and Logistics, thereby promoting the interdisciplinary nature of Operations Research. |

|
POpe recommends publication in the SciELO Preprints collection or another repository, so that the article can be openly discussed before publication. |
Peer Review Process
|
Submitted articles are evaluated by at least two reviewers, using the blind review system. Editors seek reviewers who are not from the same institution as the authors of the article. Editors and reviewers may not appropriate any knowledge acquired or results obtained during the evaluation process of the articles. The anonymity of the reviewers is preserved, unless they express their interest, in the case of approval of the article, in the identified publication of their reports. POpe gives the option for reviewers and authors by mutual agreement to request or accept publication of the evaluation reports on approved articles with the optional identification of the reviewers. The final decision on all articles, including those submitted for publication in special issues, is made by the Editor-in-Chief. The final version of the article published in the journal includes the name of the Associate Editor or Editor-in-Chief responsible for the peer review process. |
Open Data
|
Every article must contain a Data Availability note, stating whether all the data investigated is provided in the article and, if not, where it can be found. When submitting their articles, authors are advised to immediately deposit the data at SciELO Data. To facilitate publication at SciELO Data, it is recommended that the current version of the article be published in SciELO's collection SciELO Preprints. |

POpe is completely open-access, with no costs for submission, publication or access to articles. |
Ethics and Misconduct, Correction and Retraction Policy
|
POpe Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors do Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) e o Guide to Best Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publishing SciELO. POpe follows the COPE guidelines whenever it becomes aware of any harmful or criminal action by authors or other participants in the publication process relating to the integrity of the research itself or any other aspect that may affect the research or its publication. All authors must provide, whenever necessary, corrections or retractions of errors made. Editors will publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies whenever necessary. If, after proper investigation, the existence of a fraudulent article is proven, a retraction must be made. An erratum is published when cases of error(s) or flaw(s) in a published article are identified, and equally in cases where a retraction is necessary. The retraction must be clearly identifiable to readers and indexing systems. |
Policy on Conflict of Interest
|
Editors, reviewers and authors must declare all potential conflicts of interest (personal, financial, intellectual, professional, political or religious) that could influence the research and the preparation, evaluation or interpretation of the results. |
Adoption of Similarity Software
|
The authors warrant, when submitting an article, that it does not infringe copyright or any other third-party rights. They must declare that the articles submitted are of their own making and that any third-party material that may use is legitimately referenced and authorized. They must appropriately list and cite the works that served as the basis for the development of their research. They must declare that the articles submitted for evaluation and their essential content are unpublished and are not in the process of being evaluated by another journal. Before sending them to their reviewers, the Editor-in-Chief confirms the originality of the submitted manuscripts by applying the plagiarism detector Turnitin Originality Checker. |
Adoption of Software Using Artificial Intelligence Resources
|
I - Authorship and Accountability Artificial intelligence (AI) and similar technologies do not qualify for authorship, therefore no AI tools may be included as co-authors on any manuscript. II - Mandatory Declaration and Disclosure The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools at any stage of manuscript preparation (including research, analysis, writing, or editing) must be explicitly informed and registered by the author(s) in the manuscript itself. This mandatory declaration must clearly specify the following three items, consistent with the requirements of the supporting institution: - Tool Used: The specific GAI tool or model utilized (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.). - Purpose of Use: The specific function for which the tool was employed (e.g., translation, summarizing literature, generating initial drafts of non-scientific text, grammar checking). - Content Produced/Modified: A precise description of the content produced or modified by the GAI tool. III- Formal Requirements - Writing and Editing: The use of AI to assist in writing texts, language refinement, and formatting must be carefully supervised by the authors. If used to create content or help with writing or editing, this must be described in detail in the mandatory declaration (as specified in item II). - Research Design and Methods: When AI tools are an integral part of the formal research design, methodology, data analysis, or simulation, their use must be included and described in detail within the Methodology section of the manuscript. - Compliance: It is mandatory to include an explicit declaration of GAI tool usage in all final documents submitted for publication, clearly indicating compliance with the items above. |
Gender and Sex Issues
|
Editors, reviewers and authors must always observe the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines when reporting information about sex and gender in study design, data analysis and results and interpretation of findings. POpe observes the gender equity policy in the formation of its Editorial Board. |
Ethics Committee
|
POpe pays rigorous attention to ethical standards for conducting animal and human research. Presentation of certificates from animal and human ethics committees may be required in the evaluation process. If there are any doubts about the documentation sent, the journal may reject the article. |
Copyright
|
The authors of articles published by POpe maintain the copyright of their work. The authors grant POpe the right of first publication. |
Intellectual Property and Terms of Use
|
Submission of an article implies that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if that is the case, as well as by the responsible authorities of the institution where the work was carried out and that any copyright of third parties is not being violated. Although the information contained in this periodical is believed to be true and accurate at the date of its printing, the editors and SOBRAPO do not accept any legal responsibility for errors or omissions that may have occurred or that may be identified. The data, opinions and concepts expressed in the articles, as well as the accuracy of the bibliographic references, are the sole responsibility of the author(s). POpe encourages Authors to self-archive their accepted manuscripts, publishing them on personal blogs, institutional repositories, and academic social media, as well as posting them on their personal social media, as long as the full citation of the journal website version is included. |

The submitted articles must be original and must not have been accepted for publication (or published) by other journals nor be in the process of being evaluated for publication in another medium. Authors' Contribution
|
All authors included in the article must have contributed significantly to the preparation of the work, and authors must not be included after acceptance of the article. POpe adopts the CRediT – Contributor Roles Taxonomy to identify the contribution of each author to the publication. The article must contain a note that displays to the right of the authors’ names their contributions using the appropriate CRediT: Conceptualization; Data Curation; Formal Analysis; Funding Acquisition; Investigation; Methodology; Project Administration; Resources; Software; Supervision; Validation; Visualization; Writing - Original Draft Preparation; Writing - Review & Editing. |

Article Submission Format
|
The manuscript must be submitted in the pdf format (font Times New Roman, single spacing). Margin specifications are as follows: upper: 33 millimeters, lower: 25 millimeters, left and right: 29 millimeters, header: 21 millimeters, gutter: 3 millimeters, mirrored margins. In case there are references in the text, they should be made to sections and not to page numbers. Size and option for characters are as follows: article title: 12 uppercase bold, author(s): 12 bold uppercase / lowercase, origin: 11 normal uppercase lowercase, abstract and keyword titles: 11 bold uppercase / lowercase, keywords: 11 normal, abstract texts: 10 normal, article text: 11 bold (titles); 11 normal (text). The first page must present the paper title, name(s) and affiliation(s) of the author(s), abstract and keywords. The title must be followed by the name of each author (without titles or positions), identified by the ORCID IS and an email address, followed by institution name. The abstract must contain no more than 150 words. After the abstract three keywords must be provided. The paper must begin with an introduction. Footnotes are not permitted. Acknowledgements must not exceed 5 lines and must be placed after the main text, before the references. |
Digital Assets
|
Graphical objects and tables should be mentioned in the text and incorporated into the text by the text editor. Objects made with several elements should be grouped. Color printing is not supported. Mathematical expressions, tables and figures must be numbered consecutively, in order of appearance in the text, using Arabic numerals. All tables will be standardized during the journal stage of final formatting of the articles. |
Citations and References
|
In-text citations should include surnames and the year of publication of the reference, as in Maculan, Plateau & Lisser (2003). Bibliographic references should be arranged alphabetically by the last surname of the first author. Although in-text citations and the list of references are standardized in the journal's final formatting stage, authors are recommended, when submitting, to follow American Psychological Association - APA 6th edition standards, or apply the following models for chapters contributed to edited books, books, articles published in journals and internal reports and theses, respectively: De Almeida AT, Rosselli LRP, Costa Morais D, Costa APCS. 2020. The paper should be accompanied by a letter of submission. This letter must include mailing addresses, phone numbers, e-mail address of the corresponding author, and a note on the contribution of the paper. Authors must submit the manuscripts in PDF format and accompany them with TEX or Word source files. |
Financing Statement
|
Authors must include, at the end of the article, a note with information about the research funding sources, including the names of the sponsors, the contract number (if applicable), together with explanations about the role of these sources. |
