Brief History
|
Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) (e-ISSN 1982-0275) is an advanced publication journal of the Graduate Program in Psychology of the Life Sciences Center at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (PUC-Campinas). Founded in 1983, it encourages contributions from both the national and international scientific communities. Its mission is to promote and disseminate scientific and technical knowledge in the field of Psychology, as well as to discuss the significance of practices in professional and research settings, through the publication of original articles that represent relevant contributions to the field and its interdisciplinary interfaces. The journal also publishes theoretical works, critical reviews, and communications pertinent to Psychology as both a science and a profession. |
Open Access

This Journal follows the Open Access model, allowing virtual access without restrictions (Including financial restrictions) to all scientific texts published by the journal. Open Access is the condition in which the copyright holder of an academic work grants usage rights to third parties using an open license (Creative Commons Attribution, CC-BY), allowing immediate free access to the work and authorizing any use to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other legal purpose. |
Compliance with Open Science

Since 2019, Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) has adopted a continuous publication model as a way to contribute to the acceleration of the dissemination of scientific research and access to updated information. Furthermore, it is a Gold open access journal, meaning all its content can be freely accessed at no cost. Aiming to broaden the transparency and debate of the current scientific model, we disclose the Editor responsible for the evaluation process in the published article and encourage the submission of preprints, as well as the deposition of research data. For these purposes, we recommend SciELO Preprints and SciELO data. The Open Science Compliance Form developed by SciELO is available for online completion and contributes to improving open science-related practices in the journal. |
Publication Ethics

Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) with a focus on the application/execution of good practices in scientific publications, adopts the Guidelines on Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing recommended by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), to guide the journal's editorial activities. For research involving human beings and animals, we adhere to Resolution No. 466, of December 12, 2012, established by the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The journal uses the iThenticate similarity detection tool to ensure the originality of its publications. In cases of identified research misconduct (according to COPE guidelines), the journal presents the case to its editorial board for deliberation. Where applicable, the Journal adopts the publication of errata and retractions, aiming for scientific communication that does not generate doubts regarding its credibility. |
Focus and Scope

Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) publishes theoretical papers, critical reviews, and communications relevant to Psychology as a science and a profession, encouraging contributions from the national and international scientific community. Original articles are accepted for the following areas: Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Perception and Neuroscience, School and Educational Psychology, Community Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapies, Health Psychology, Psychological Assessment, Organizational and Work Psychology. Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) accepts proposals for the publication of thematic dossiers, which are evaluated by the Editorial Team. If approved, the journal commits to publishing one dossier per year. Proposals must follow the following model established by the journal's editorial board. |

The Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) journal, in accordance with the Open Science movement, supports the use of preprint servers and accepts manuscripts previously deposited on reliable servers such as SciELO Preprints. A preprint is a manuscript that is ready for submission to a journal and is deposited on reliable servers, either before or in parallel with a journal submission. A reliable preprint server must have a transparent moderation policy, offer DOIs to submitted preprints, allow for community changes, comments, and evaluation with researcher endorsement, and have interoperability with other services and platforms. Only submissions of works previously deposited on public server platforms that meet these characteristics of reliability and transparency will be accepted. If the article is accepted and published in Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas), authors must update the record on the preprint server, providing the full reference of the publication in the journal. |

Open Data
|
Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) supports and encourages the sharing of data, codes, methods, and other materials used and resulting from research that are generally underlying in the texts of articles published in the journal. If external research data are used, consult the Research Data Citation Guide provided by SciELO. The repositories for research data deposition recommended by SciELO can be used and are accepted. Among the data repositories recommended by the Brazilian Journal of Nutrition is the SciELO data repository. It is an open and fee-free system that allows contributors to deposit research data associated with a specific manuscript. Using SciELO Data, authors should submit their data ONLY after the manuscript has been accepted. Data Availability

Providing a Data Availability Statement is a condition for publication and must contain information on where the data supporting the results reported in the article can be found. This includes, where applicable, hyperlinks to publicly archived datasets that were analyzed or generated during the study. If the research data are not publicly available, this must be stated in the manuscript along with any conditions for data access. Ethics Policy and Misconduct, Errata and Retraction
|
Cases of scientific misconduct identified by Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) will be investigated by the Journal's editorial team, together with the Editorial Board, to determine the best option for their resolution. In a situation of misconduct, the journal's retraction policy will be applied, in accordance with the Guide to Good Practices proposed by SciELO. Requests for Errata or Retraction will be evaluated and conducted according to the guidelines provided by SciELO Brazil. |
Conflict of Interest Policy
|
Conflicts of interest may be of a personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial nature and can occur when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. Upon submitting the manuscript, authors are responsible for acknowledging and disclosing financial or other conflicts that may have influenced the work. If there is any, even potential, conflict of interest, the author(s) must inform it in a separate signed document attached to the submission platform. Adoption of similarity checking software
|
The journal uses the iThenticate tool to verify the similarity of articles. This verification occurs during the evaluation process, in the second stage of the ad hoc review. There is no acceptable percentage of similarity, and each case is analyzed individually. Articles derived from publications such as theses or dissertations are accepted and can be submitted; however, we understand that high-quality research should generate distinct research products and not just sliced reproductions (“salami publications”), with this modality considered unethical conduct. Authors may be invited to rewrite and adjust the manuscript according to the similarity found. |

Sex and Gender Issues
|
The editorial team of Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas), as well as the authors who publish in the journal, must always observe the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER. The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines that guide the reporting of information on sex and gender in study design, data analysis, and the results and interpretation of findings. Furthermore, Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) observes a gender equity policy in the formation of its editorial board. |
Ethics Committee
|
Research involving procedures with human beings must respect the ethical principles established by Resolution No. 466, of December 12, 2012, of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, and the research must have been approved by the ethics committee of the institution responsible for it. The document declaring approval from the ethics committee will be requested in case of article approval. For evaluation, it is necessary to inform the research registration number. |

In all articles published by Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas), copyright is retained by the authors. Articles are protected under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 open access license, which means that anyone can download and read the article at no cost. Furthermore, the article can be reused provided it is properly cited. Authors grant the journal the right to publicize the first publication. |

The publication reserves the right to make normative, spelling, and grammatical changes to the originals in order to maintain the standard of the language, while respecting the authors' style. The moral and intellectual rights of the articles belong to their respective authors and are not the property of the journal, which also does not take responsibility for the opinions expressed by the authors. Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) accepts article submissions in any language; however, if approved, articles are published in English (occasionally, at the editors' discretion, articles may also be published in the vernacular language). The payment for the translation of articles into English is the responsibility of their authors. The journal accepts the following categories:

Authors' Contribution
|
The individual contributions of the authors must be substantial and disclosed at the time of submission, in the designated section of the Template provided by the journal. Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) limits publication to articles with up to seven (7) authors, and this information must be provided using the terms established by CRediT, namely: Conceptualization, Data Curation, Formal Analysis, Funding Acquisition, Investigation, Methodology, Project Administration, Resources, Software, Supervision, Validation, Visualization, Writing – Original Draft, Writing – Review & Editing. Preparing the Manuscript
|
The manuscript must follow the following Template provided by the editors of the Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) during its preparation. Adherence to the template facilitates the identification of information by the Journal's team and lends greater agility to the process of normalization and standardization of articles, which also impacts the final publication time after approval. |
Article Submission Format
|
Manuscript submissions, when using the template provided by the journal, must follow the editable format (.docx), compatible with Microsoft Word. Submissions in PDF format or from other text editing tools will not be accepted. Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) accepts manuscript submissions in any language. However, once approved, articles are published in English. Occasionally, they may also be made available in Portuguese in a bilingual format, at the editorial board's discretion. The costs associated with translating the articles into English are the responsibility of the authors. Articles should be a maximum of 30 pages long (approximately 40,000 to 63,000 characters with spaces), including everything from the abstract to the final illustration. The manuscript must contain the following: a) Title in both Portuguese and English. b) Authorship:
c) Structured Abstract in Portuguese and English, with a maximum of 250 words. The use of acronyms, abbreviations, or citations is not permitted. d) Keywords in both English and Portuguese. To determine keywords, authors must consult the DeCS subject list. 3 to 5 keywords should be added, separated by a semicolon (;), and the first letter of the first word must be capitalized. e) Contribution of all authors: Authorship credit must be based on substantial contributions. The Journal adopts the Contributor Roles Taxonom (CRediT) system. f) Indicate the availability of research data. g) Acknowledgments (when appropriate): Acknowledge those who have contributed significantly to the study (people, laboratories, departments, etc.). A signed statement from all individuals mentioned, attesting to their consent for their names to be disclosed, must be submitted. h) Funding: Specify sponsors, financial aid, grants, and/or programs, citing the name of the funding organization and the process number. i) References (see References section). |
Digital Assets
|
Tables and Figures: Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) accepts manuscripts with up to seven (7) illustrations in any format (e.g., tables, charts, images, graphs). They must be cited in the text (Example: Figure 1) and inserted after the References section. Send them separately and in an open/editable format from the program in which they were created. The following programs are accepted: Excel, GraphPrism, SPSS 22, Corel Draw Suite X7. If created in other programs, the illustrations must be in jpg format, 600 DPI, with a size between 7 and 17cm (width or height); Font: Arial - size 7.5; do not use all caps text (uppercase). They must have a brief, concise title without acronyms (Tables and figures must state the city and year of the research). If necessary, include explanatory notes. For acronyms or specific emphasis, such as the use of bolding, asterisks, among others, it is mandatory to include an explanation in a footnote of the illustration. However, considering the accessibility of readers, we recommend the use of Tables and Charts, which are more easily read through assistive technologies such as screen-reading software. Images and column graphs, among others, require more elaborate audio descriptions that are not yet available in the Journal. |
Citations and References

The journal Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) adopts the publication standards of the American Psychological Association – APA (7th edition, 2020), with some style adaptations.Citations Citations Article with two authors: cite both authors whenever the article is referenced. Article with three or more authors: cite the first author’s surname followed by et al. and the year, from the first appearance in the text. Ex.: Carneiro et al. (2011) or (Carneiro et al., 2011). Quotations in a foreign language translated by the authors should include the original-language excerpt in a footnote. The source citation must indicate: our translation. Example: (Pfeiffer, 2015, p. 24, our translation). Direct quotations, with up to 40 words, should be included in the body of the text in quotation marks, with the author’s surname, date, and page number. Ex.: It is possible to understand that “artistic material for content and style is apprehended from reality and worked on from it” (Barroco & Superti, 2014, p. 23). Quotations with more than 40 words should appear in a new paragraph, single-spaced, font size 11, and indented 4 cm from the left margin. Emphasis in quotations should be noted as emphasis in the original (when the emphasis is in the source) or emphasis added (when added by the author). References: Apply a 1.27cm hanging indent to each item, which means the first line of the reference is aligned to the left and subsequent lines are indented 1.27cm from the left margin.
