Este texto pretende mostrar a crítica de Merleau-Ponty à ontologia do ser e do nada de Sartre. Contra o modelo da contradição, típica dessa ontologia, Merleau-Ponty retoma a noção kantiana de grandeza negativa e o seu modelo de oposição real.

The aim of this paper is to present Merleau-Ponty’s criticism of Sartre’s ontology of being and nothingness. Against the model of contradiction, typical of that ontology, Merleau-Ponty resorts to the Kantian notion of negative grateness and its model of real opposition.

A partir das reflexões do último Merleau-Ponty sobre a ontologia clássica e sua compreensão do ser, particularmente n’O visível e o invisível, podemos descobrir certas questões que aproximam sua filosofia da de Espinosa. Ao repassar algumas delas, esperamos mostrar ao menos a pertinência de uma investigação acerca das relações entre espinosismo e merleau-pontysmo.

In Merleau-Ponty’s reflections on classical ontology and his understanding of being (particularly in Le visible et l’invisible) one can discern some issues which approximate his philosophy to that of Spinoza’s. By showing that, I hope to establish at least the convenience of an investigation about the relationship between the ideas of the two philosophers.

O ponto de partida do presente artigo é a idéia adorniana de que os conceitos como formas de pensamento são constelações de poder. Diferentemente de muitas interpretações que vêem em Adorno um resignado, Demirovic mostra que essa idéia permite que o filósofo dê à sua própria teoria o caráter de intervenção no consenso ideológico da vida quotidiana no tocante à emancipação.

The starting point of Demirovic's text is Adorno’s idea that concepts as forms of thinking are constellations of power. Differently from many interpretations of Adorno as resigned, Demirovic shows that this assumption enables Adorno to give his own theory the character of interventions in the ideological consensus of everyday life with regard to emancipation.

Para Sartre, a angústia caracteriza a existência subjetiva do homem ao tomar decisões. Em ambos, o despertar da intersubjetividade depende do reconhecimento do outro e é determinante para a moral.

According to Rousseau, in the state of nature man is isolated and independent, but as he becomes a social being, he becomes also a moral being. Sartre thinks that anguish caracterizes the subjective existence of man while making decisions. To both, the beginning of intersubjectivity depends on recognition of the other and is essential to morals.

La filosofía contemporánea se hacaracterizadopor la presencia de un dualismo esquizoide entre la tradición analítica e la tradición fenomenológico hermenéutica. El origen histórico del mismo puede ser fijado en el Congreso de Davos, el cual, por otra parte, señala el comienzo del olvido de un otro programa, la filosofía de las formas simbólicas de E. Cassirer e que hoy puede ser considerado como alternativa e posible dirección de superación del dualismo mencionado. Tal es, en síntesis, la posición defendida por M. Friedman en su reciente monografía, escrita en el contexto de la convicción de una crisis derivada del agotamiento de las tradiciones y de la subsecuente necesidad de una reorientación. El texto que ofrecemos comenta críticamente el estudio de Friedman, mostrando donde y cómo él puede y debe ser completado o, eventualmente, corregido.

Contemporary philosophy has been characterized by the presence of a schizoid dualism between the analytic tradition and the fenomenologic-hermeneutic tradition. Its historical origin can be set in the Davos Congress, which sets off the beginning of the oblivion of another program, the philosophy of symbolic forms, proposed by E. Cassirer, and which nowadays can be considered as an alternative and possible surpassing direction of the above-mentioned dualism. That is, in short, the position sustained by M. Friedman in his recent monograph, written in the context of the conviction of a crisis derived from the depauperation of the traditions and from the subsequent need for a re-orientation. The text offered provides a critical comment of Friedman’s study, showing the point from which it can and must be completed and eventually corrected, and how its completion and correction are to be done.

Este artigo apresenta introdutoriamente a maneira como Bergson aborda o dualismo ontológico num diálogo crítico com a tradição moderna. A proposta de reconstrução da metafísica em novos termos exige a passagem pela colocação tradicional dos principais problemas filosóficos, em especial o dualismo moderno, cuja origem é cartesiana. Para diluir as antíteses do pensamento conceitual, a filosofia da bergsoniana estabelece um procedimento dualista, a dissociação analítica da experiência determinando seus domínios distintos em natureza. Somente a noção de duração permite a reconciliação entre tais elementos, pensados então como ritmos do tempo. Nossa intenção é mostrar como se esquematiza tal percurso nas duas primeiras obras de Bergson.

This article is an introductory presentation to Bergson’s analysis of ontological dualism and his critical dialogue with the modern tradition. The proposal of metaphysical reconstruction demands a study of Cartesian dualism to dissolve the antithetical positions of conceptual thought. In this way, Bergson’s philosophy makes an analytical dissolution of human experience and determines two domains of reality. Only the idea of duration can solve the tensions of Bergson’s dualism.

A legitimação de políticas públicas que apóiam o cultivo de lavouras transgênicas em larga escala pressupõe, entre outras condições, (1) que os dados empíricos garantem não haver riscos ambientais não-administráveis e, (2) a não-existência de modos melhores de produzir alimentos sem a utilização de técnicas transgênicas. O artigo discute: (a) Os tipos de investigação científica necessários para um exame adequado da condição (1), (b) como as investigações sobre (1) e (2) se relacionam entre si, e (c) como tais investigações se relacionam com valores sociais controvertidos.

Legitimation of public policies that support the widespread plantings of transgenic crops presuppose, among other conditions, that (1) evidence supports that there are no unmanageable environmental risks and (2) there are no better ways to produce enough nourishing food that can dispense with the transgenics-oriented ways. This paper discusses: (a) the kinds of scientific inquiry that are needed to address (1) adequately, (b) the connections between investigations of (1) and (2), and (c) how these investigations are related with controversial social values.

Em primeiro lugar, apresenta-se uma visão geral das idéias de Lacey sobre a ciência em sua relação com os valores dos movimentos populares, e do Fórum Social Mundial. A seguir, num exercício de construção de pontes conceituais entre o discurso filosófico e o político sobre a ciência, desenvolve-se uma análise do pronunciamento do novo titular do Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia do Brasil, feito por ocasião de sua posse.

First an overall view is provided of Lacey’s ideas concerning science in its relation with the values of popular movements, and of the World Social Forum. Then, as an exercise in the building of conceptual bridges betweeen philosophical and political discourses about science, an analysis is provided of a speech delivered by Brazil’s new minister for science and technology in the occasion of his taking office.
