CONSERVATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND RIVER BASIN: ELEMENTS TO SUSTAINABLE OF DEVELOPMENT

Hydrological resources, environmental disturbances and sustainable development are the main concern in today's world. The global population is growing at a fast pace and the available natural resources, mainly water resources may not cope with the present fast growing demand at a worldwide level. The present work deal with the water resources management on a social, economic and environmental basis within the Pacoti river basin in the Sate of Ceara - Northeaster Brazil. The study also cover the conflicts related to the utilization of land resources. Based on the geosystem theory and also on the fundamental of the Regional Planning domain, the present study makes proposal to improve the Pacoti's river basin eater management, aiming to mitigate environ- mental impacts as well as to reach a pattern of self sustainable development. That is what this study all about.
