Open-access Community of Practice for Nursing: connecting nurses in the Region of the Americas *

Objective: to analyze the use profile and content of the messages posted in the Community of Practice for Nursing in the Region of the Americas of the Pan American Health Organization as a tool intended to share experiences, knowledge and opportunities for nurses.

Method: a descriptive and qualitative study aimed at analyzing the messages posted in the Community of Practice forums. The data were analyzed by content analysis.

Results: the Community of Practice has allowed the participation of 1,765 professionals from 20 countries, with a total of 4,001 posts. The topics analyzed (education, employment, leadership and service delivery) were addressed from the perspective of professionals from different countries, presenting the challenges they face and their reflections regarding the situation of nursing in the region.

Conclusion: the platform allowed professionals from different countries and performance scopes to interact and discuss relevant topics for nursing education and practice in the Region of the Americas. Through the Community of Practice, the expectation is to enhance commitment, cooperation and solidarity for collective learning and skills development, thus maximizing nurses’ contributions to health systems and services.
