Between Images: A Comparative Analysis between Surveillance Cameras and Body-Worn Cameras in the Justice System

The paper proposes a comparative analysis of the use of images captured by urban surveillance cameras and body cameras used by police officers, focusing on how actors in the criminal justice system mobilize this visual evidence. The research seeks to understand the differences and similarities in the use of images from different equipment. The stages of production, request, use and dispute of these images are examined, identifying tensions between technological innovation and traditional criminal law practices. The analysis reveals that, despite the differences between the devices, the use of images is still marked by inquisitorial logics and structural asymmetries between prosecution and defense.
