Achilles tendon xanthoma

The recent report on “Achilles tendon xanthoma” is very interesting.¹ Fernandes et al. concluded that imaging studies were useful for diagnosis of Achilles tendon xanthoma.¹ In fact, the Achilles tendon xanthoma is rare. The differential diagnosis should include gouty nodule at Achilles tendon. An important concern is the cost-effectiveness of MRI imaging use. It should be specifically selected in case of underlying hyperlipidemia. Besides, it is reported that the diagnostic property of the MRI is not good. Dussault and Kaplan concluded that “xanthoma appearance in MRI is not pathognomonic”.²
