This is a theoretical search of reflective orientation aimed at discussing the aspects and characteristics that constitute the traditional and modern dimensions of Marajoara Wrestling. The results indicate that tradition and modernity are integral to the history of Marajoara Wrestling as a cultural manifestation of the people of Marajó Island, and that there is a set of characterizations related to these types of experiences present in this Brazilian fight. In tradition, the traditional contexts of practicing Marajoara Wrestling and its ritualistic nature are highlighted. Connected with the modern expression, challenges, tensions, and trends towards its sportification and formalization in schools are observed.
