Open-access Cultural Semiotics: contributions to school Physical Education

This essay examines potential contributions of cultural semiotics to school Physical Education, starting from the core concepts of this theoretical-methodological framework. It then discusses and proposes pedagogical implications for the curriculum component while warning about the limits of textualizing bodily experience. It concludes that cultural semiotics broadens the understanding of how culture organizes the meanings of bodily practices as living texts subject to reformulations, and how such meanings can be pedagogically addressed.
