Open-access The Institutional elements and logistics performance of a public pharmaceutical care network

This purpose of this paper was to investigate the influence of institutional elements on the logistics performance of a Brazilian public enterprise. By taking a quantitative approach, using structural equation modeling (SEM), this study found that certain institutional elements of a regulative and cognitive nature do have an influence on the performance of the pharmaceutical drug distribution network, with this network arrangement playing a mediating role. In addition to contributing to a better understanding of the phenomena associated with supply chain management, based on organizational theories, the results of this research also contribute to the understanding of how socially constituted symbolic systems can affect the allocation of resources and the performance of an organizational function.
