Open-access The Uruguayan national curriculum: competency-based education and physical education

The year 2023 marks the Uruguayan National Curriculum Mark (MCN) implementation. In this article, we propose to systematize the theoretical discussions on the competence-based curriculum, contributing to the analysis of the MCN, and emphasizing its guidelines in physical education. The analysis of the recurrence of competence-based education in Latin America shows that incorporating these guidelines follows international standards with little reflection on the local reality. In the physical education program, it can be concluded that the relationship between competencies and the specificity of the area is weak, resulting in a document that contributes only marginally to the discussions of recent decades.
