Open-access Interface between ways of life, health, and illness of homeless persons

This study aimed to understand the relationship between the way of life, health, and illness of homeless individuals, using an anthropological and ethnographic approach in a neighborhood in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was evident that health and illness are intrinsically connected to the living conditions on the streets, involving social, biological, and psychological factors affecting this group. The need for healthcare professionals to broaden their perception of life and illness on the streets is emphasized, adopting an intersectoral approach and implementing enduring measures to meet the diverse needs of this population.
