This article introduces and comments two texts written by Friedrich Schlegel in his youth, before he moved to Jena in 1796: Vom Wert des Studiums der Griechen und Römer (On the value of the study of Greeks and Romans) of 1795/1796 and Über das Studium der griechischen Poesie (On the study of Greek poetry) of 1795. In these texts the author develops an original theory concerning history and the philosophy of history.
