State of the art of news-value (part two)

This article presents the state of the art in Brazil and worldwide based on databases, while the first research focused on the state of the art in news values studies based on scientific journals. In this text, we identify the most relevant authors and articles on “news values”, “news factors” and “newsworthiness” in the Scopus, Web of Science and SciELO databases over the last 10 years. We present a cloud with the 10 most important authors of news value studies for foreign academia today. We relate the propositions and notions of the most followed authors in Brazil with the most followed authors outside Brazil. We analyse four concepts: news values, news factors, ‘newsworthiness criteria’ and newsworthiness. In conclusion, it is understood that news values consists of “journalistic doxa” (Schultz, 2007). Newsworthiness, on the other hand, which is formed in society, is the result of collective knowledge (Eilders, 2006), but is influenced by individual interests. The Newsworthiness criteria, a term used only in Brazil, is equivalent to an extrinsic news factor. News factors refer to factors internal to events (qualifications) and factors external to events, including discourse (the news). There must be different news factors for different cultures.
