The manuals of the “Biblioteca de Cultura Pedagógica” and the consejos on educational renewal from its founder Clotilde Rezzano (1946-1951

This work results from a historiographical research about “Biblioteca de Cultura Pedagógica” (BCP), a collection published by the Argentinian publishing house Kapelusz, founded and directed between 1946 and 1951 by Clotilde Guillén de Rezzano, one of the pioneers of the New Education in Argentina. We analyze the training of Latin American teachers by studying the production and circulation of BCP works that form a pedagogical literature for Latin America. Thus, the aim is to present the materiality and narratives in BCP textbooks from a transnational perspective. Methodologically, the analysis focuses on the relationship between the materiality of the object and the text, with characteristics about the publisher, BCP, and its founder, the production and circulation of the works in Brazil and Latin America, as well as the physical aspects of the books, constituting the materiality examination. The analysis of the text, which advised future teachers on the importance of the educational renewal movement, will be presented based on some works from the collection and on the considerations of its founder. The theoretical framework used, such as Chartier (1999), Choppin (2004), and Batista and Galvão (2009), guides our studies and analysis. Through this research, we conclude that the BCP manuals helped to understand different themes, such as the New Education and teaching, breaking down boundaries, and contributing to the memory of the training of Latin American teachers.
