Open-access RETRACION: ARTICLE-OPINION: THE ROLE OF THE PROBLEM IN SOCIO-SCIENTIFIC ISSUES AND IN THE DISCURSIVE DYNAMICS OF THE CLASSROOM

I present the evaluation of the article "The Role of the Problem in Socioscientific Issues and the Discursive Dynamics of the Classroom," focusing on the approach to Socioscientific Issues (SSI) in science teaching and their role in the development of critical scientific literacy. SSIs, by their controversial nature, involve social, economic, ethical, political, and environmental dimensions, potentially fostering debates that encourage critical thinking and sociopolitical actions. Although the original article makes a relevant contribution to understanding these issues, especially by relating them to Vygotsky's sociocultural perspective, the need for a deeper exploration regarding the development of critical scientific literacy and the explicitness of the inherent controversies in SSI was identified. Based on this, this evaluation expands the discussion on the controversial aspects of SSIs and delves into the theoretical and methodological foundations to strengthen critical scientific literacy. Thus, it proposes a reflection that contributes to a more politicized, critical, contextualized, and transformative scientific education.

Key words:
SSI (Socio-Scientific Issues); Controversial nature; Science education
