Open-access CITIZENSHIP DISCURSES AND SCIENCE EDUCATION IN SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS

Abstract

This paper presents the results of an investigation that aimed to identify the meanings of citizenship in school science textbooks. For that, some models that articulate science and citizenship in dialogue with notions from contemporary political philosophy were employed as a reference to our analysis. Our results point to a coexistence of different citizenship discourses in the texts, reflecting the tensions between established ideological and material resources and the transformation proposals in science education.

Science textbooks; citizenship; discourses.
