Hassel’s Notes on Lands and Peoples in the East Peru

Engineer Jorge M. Von Hassel published Apuntes de viaje en el Oriente Peruano in 1905, a time when rubber exploration was at its peak throughout the Amazon, encompassing several countries in South America. The book was written based on events he witnessed or heard during the various expeditions carried out in Peruvian territory, in which he led or composed teams that aimed to expand knowledge about the country’s geography, with the aim of increasing the State’s control over distant regions and wild peoples.
