MASCULINISM AND MISOGYNY ON THE JOVEM PAN MORNING SHOW

Abstract

The article aims to problematize how misogynistic and sexist discourses spread through masculinist movements, such as the Red Pill. It starts with the concept of gender (Scott, 1995) and symbolic violence (Bourdieu, 2002), focusing on the history of sexuality (Foucault, 1988) and discusses a prelude to the concept of masculinity (Nolasco, 2001; Connel and Messerschmidt, 2013). The aim is to use the theoretical-methodological perspective of Content Analysis (Bardin, 2011) to try to identify the misogynistic and sexist discourse used by Thiago Schutz in the search to delegitimize women’s autonomy, on the Jovem Pan Morning Show. The text identifies that masculinist speeches, such as those of Thiago Schutz, can incite hatred and violence against women and perpetuate gender stereotypes.
