Open-access Empire of representative government: rediscussion

Abstract

This paper analyzes the representative government in Brazil, in the closing of the XIX century, so as to show that the Brazilian constitutional monarchy did not stand apart of the models of political representation then effective in Europe. With that aim, the paper examines the Poder Moderador, the citizenship criteria and the electoral legislation.
