Open-access NOTES ON MIGRATION PROCESSES AND TRANSNATIONALITY: reflections on Latin American urban planning

Abstract

Brazil has a prominent place in migration processes in Latin America, receiving large contingents of migrants from the region. In recent decades, driven by factors related to the effects of neoliberalism and accelerated globalization, the displacement of people of different nationalities has reached worrying levels and characteristics in several regions of the country that have become important migration corridors. Considering that the arrival of ethnic groups impacts urban space, introducing new complexities to its planning and management, this article analyzes the repercussions of international migration on the production of space and the hegemonic model of the city, adopting a transnational and multicultural approach.
