ABSTRACT A case of infectious keratoconjunctivitis on buffaloes in São Paulo State, Brazil is presented. Three animals showed corneal opacity, eye discharge and photophobia. Laboratory findings permitted identify the bacterial agent as Moraxella urethralis.

RESUMO Estudou-se o comportamento mineral nas gramíneas forrageiras utilizadas na alimentação de bovinos criados extensivamente em pastagens formadas por Brachiaria decumbens, Brachiaria brizanta e colonião ( Panicum maximum), para os elementos cálcio (Ca), fósforo (P), magnésio (Mg), cobre (Cu), zinco (Zn), manganês (Mn), ferro (Fe) e cobalto (Co), coletadas em períodos distintos das estações seca e águas. As três forrageiras estudadas apresentaram deficiência mineral múltipla de P, Mg, Cu e Mn, em relação às exigências dos bovinos. A análise conjunta das três forrageiras apresentou valores de Ca, P, Mg, em g%; de Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, Co, em ppm e o coeficiente de variação em%, cujos dados são r spectivamente: Ca: 0,42 e 21,14; P: 0,10 e 20,45; Mg: 0,16 e 8,01; Cu: 5,6 e 8,82; Zn: 67,70 e 13,96; Mn: 68,56 e 12,38; Fe: 144,86 e 31,36; Co: 0,10 e 4,03. Houve diferenças significativas (P < O, 05) entre forrageiras para os elementos P, Mg, Zn e Mn.

ABSTRACT Study of the mineral behavior was rrÍade in forages plants utilized in the nutrition of the bovines breeding extensively in the pastures formed by Brachiaria decumbens, Brachiaria brizanta e Panicum maximum for the elements Ca, P, Mg, Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe and Co. The experimental delineation used was subdivide umbalanced part to analyse the results in a hundred sixty properties collected in the wet and dry seasons. Three forages plants studied presented mineral deficiency multiple of P, Mg, Cu and Mn in the relation the exigency of the bovines. The total analyses of the three forages plants presented the followings values of Ca, P, Mg in g% and of Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, Co in ppm and coefficients of variation, respectively: Ca=0,42 e 21,14; P=0,10 e 20,45; Mg=0,16 e 8,01; Cu=5,6 e 8,82; Zn=67,70 e 13,96; Mn=68,56 e 12,38; Fe=144,86 e 31,36; Co=0,10 e 4,03. There was a significant difference (P<0,05) between the forages plants for the elements P, Mg, Zn and Mn.

RESUMO No presente trabalho é descrita a técnica analítica para determinar quantitativamente o manganês no maneb e no mancozeb pelo método de complexação potenciométrica empregando-se a voltametria (potenciometria por corrente constante). No mancozeb é necessária a separação do zinco, na forma de zincato, antes de se processar a análise do manganês. Essa técnica analítica apresentou grande precisão em seus resultados e facilidade na sua execução.

ABSTRACT A simple and rapid technique is described for quantitative determination of manganese in fungicides mancozeb and maneb by complexation potenciometric. Zinc is separated from mancozeb as zincate before manganese determination. This technique is precise, accurate, specific and rapid.

RESUMO Relata-se a ocorrência de mastite bovina em rebanho leiteiro do Vale do Paraíba, SP. Os exames bacteriológicos e histopatológicos possibilitaram caracterizar o agente causal como sendo Nocardia sp. As mastites ocasionadas por este microrganismo não são freqüentemente notificadas no Brasil, entretanto como o mesmo se acha presente no solo, água, dejetos, pele dos animais e mesmo em insetos, os autores consideram que o problema deva ser mais freqüente porém poucas vezes diagnosticado.

ABSTRACT An occurrence of bovine mastitis on dairy cattle is presented. The presence of Nocardia agent is not frequently notified in Brazil but since the agent is present in soil, water, waste, animal' s skin and also in insecta, the authors consider that this problem must be more frequent but few times diagnostified.

RESUMO Para avaliar linhagens de trigo duro (Triticum durum L.), cultivares de trigo comum (T. aestivum L.) e de triticale (X. triticosecale W.) foram instalados em campo nove experimentos em condições de irrigação, no período 1985-89. Estudos da tolerância ao alumínio foram feitos em soluções nutritivas, em laboratório. O cultivar de triticale Chiva; os cultivares de trigo BH 1146, IAC 24 e IAC 60 e a linhagem de trigo duro 15 (Gallareta "S") foram os mais produtivos considerando-se a média dos experimentos. A linhagem de trigo duro 23 [Gerardovz 578-Teal "S" (Flamingo "S" -Canard261/QuilafenxRuff"S" - Flamingo "S")] mostrou ao mesmo tempo resistência à ferrugem da folha (Puccinia recondita) e ao oídio (Erysiphe graminis tritici). Todos os genótipos de trigo duro, trigo e triticale estudados mostraram plantas mais baixas que o trigo BH 1146, de porte alto. As linhagens de trigo duro 1 (Tildillo 67), 2 (Yavaros "S"), 6 (Avetoro "S "x Anhinga "S" - Pelicano "S"/D.67.2) e 21 (Boohai), o triticale Chiva e os trigos BH 1146, IAC 24, IAC 60, Anahuac e Siete Cerros exibiram cinco precoce. Os trigos BH 1146, IAC 24 e IAC 60 e o triticale exibiram tolerância à presença de 6mg/litro de Al3+ na solução nutritiva. Todas as linhagens de trigo duro, e os trigos Anahuac e Siete Cerros foram sensíveis à presença de lml/litro de Al3+ nas soluções.

ABSTRACT To evaluate durum wheat (Triticum durumL.) lines, bread wheat(T. aestivumL.) and triticale(X. triticosecale W.) cultivars were carried out nine experiments under field conditions with irrigation. Aluminun tolerance was studied using nutrient solutions, in laboratory. The triticale cultivar Chiva, the bread wheat cultivars BH 1146, IAC 24 ànd IAC 60 and the durum inbred line 5 (Gallareta "S") were the most productive considering the means of the experiments. The durum wheàt inbred line 23 [Gerardovz 578 - Teal "S" - Canard 261/ Quilafen x Ruff "S"- Flamingo "S")] presented at the sarne time resistance to leaf rust (Puccinia recondita) and mildew (Erysiphe graminis tritici). AH durum and bread wheat, and triticale genotypes exhibited short r plants than the bread wheat BH 1146. The durum inbred lines 1 (Tildillo 67), 2 (Yavaros "S"), 6 (Avetoro "S"- Pelicano "S"/D. 67.2) and 21 (Boohai), the triticale Chiva and the bread wheat BH 1146, IAC 24, IAC 60, Anahuac and Siete Cerros were considered early. The bread BH 1146, IAC 24 and IAC 60 and the triticale Chivaexhibited tolerance to the presence of 6 ml/liter of Al3+ in the nutrient solution. Ali durum wheat inbred lines and the bread wheatAnahuac and Siete Cerros were sensitive to lml/liter of Al3+.

RESUMO No presente trabalho realizou-se o levantamento sorológico da prevalência doMycoplasma gallisepticum, em aves de postura comercial do primeiro ao centésimo vigésimo dia de idade, em granjas da região de Bastos, SP. A técnica utilizada foi da Soroaglutinação rápida em placa, utilizando-se o soro sem diluição; no caso de reação positiva foi feita uma diluição do soro a 1:5,, persistindo positividade diluiu-se o soro a 1:10. Consideraram-se lotes positivos aqueles que se apresentaram positivos na diluição do soro a 1:10.

ABSTRACT A serum survey was carried out 'in chicken farms of Bastos, SP and region in order to verify the prevalence of Mycoplasma gallisepticum in chickens desti ed for commercial laying from 1 to 120 days ofage. It was used the fast serum agglutination tecnique on plate using the serum without dilution, in case of positive reaction it was done a dilution of the serum in the proportion of 1:5 ; persisting positiveness the serum was diluted in the proportion of 1:1O.. It was considered positive portions those who presented positiveness with the serum dilution in proportion of 1:10.

RESUMO Um surto dequeratoconjuntiviteinfecciosa ocorreu em um rebanho de bovinos leiteiros da raça Holandesa Preta e Branca. Como essa enfermidade não é muito freqüente no Estado de São Paulo, os autores atribuem o seu aparecimento à introdução no rebanho de animais importados de país vizinho. Moraxella bovis foi isolada das secreções oculares.

ABSTRACT An outbreak of keratoconjunctivitis occurred in a HBW dairy herd. As this disease is not very frequent in this State, the authors attributed the infeccion to the introduction of new animais into the herd. Moraxella bovis was isólated.

RESUMO Os autores assinalaram duas novas ocorrências do "mal do eucalipto", em bovinos. Os animais, em número de 80, ingeriram o cogumelo Ramaria flavo-brunnescens ao pastarem em áreas de reflorestamento com eucalipto da variedade utilizada como fonte de matéria-prima para industrialização de essência natural. Os bovinos apresentaram sinais de intoxicação edois deles morreram. As lesões estavam presentes nos cascos, boca e extremidades das orelhas e cauda.

ABSTRACT Two new occurences of the named "eucalyptus disease" are presented. The animals ate the mushroom Rama ria flavo-brunnescens in an area of eucalyptus forest and showed lesions on feet, mouth, ears and tail extremity. Eighty animals exhibited sigos of intoxication and two of them died.

RESUMO A ocorrência de Beauveria amorpha (Hóhn) sobre adultos de Cosmopolites sordidus Germar, foi observada em Miracatu, São Paulo. Os maiores índices de infecção foram observados nos meses de novembro (29,0%), dezembro (21,0%) e janeiro (31,5%).

ABSTRACT The occurrence of Beauveria amorpha (Hóhn) on Cosmopolites sordidus Germar adults was observed in Miracatu, SP, Brazil. Toe highest infection levels were detected during November (29,0%), December (21,0%) and January (31,5%).

RESUMO Apresenta-se nova ocorrência de ruiva suína em uma criação no Estado de São Paulo. Os animais envolvidos exibiram um quadro sintomatológicocaracterístico da doença e dos materiais coletados bem como das fezes isolou-se oErysipelothrix rhusiopathiae. Medidas gerais de higiene e profilaxia, incluindo a adoção de um esquema de vacinação lograram controlar a doença.

ABSTRACT A new occurrence of swine erysipelas (Diamond skin disease) in a rearing near São Paulo city is presented. The animals showed disease characteristic symptomatology. Samples collected from sick animals (organs anf feces) permitted the isolation of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae. Sanitary measures, including vaccination and antibiotic therapy permited to detain the disease and to its prevent dissimination.

The diagnosis was done by the clinical signs, necropsy, serology and histophatology examination of the kidneys and Fabricius Bursa, wich showed characteristics of this disease.
