Twenty three inbred lines and two cultivars (BH 1146 and IAC 24) were evaluated in experiments carried out at Tietê (1986/87) and Cruzália (1986/88) taking into account grain yield, yield componentes and disease resistance. ln laboratory, the genotypes were evaluated for AI and Fe toxicities using nutrient solutions. The lines 1 and 19 (CNT 6 x Jupateco), 9 (Jupateco x IAC 5), 13 (Siete Cerras x BH 1146), 15 (Alondra-S-46 x Unknown) and 16 (IAC 18, Precoz Parana INTA) exhibited high yield in the three experiments carried out at Cruzália. The line 15 presented high productivity considering the five experiments. Under natural conditions of infection, showed resistance to leaf rust ( Puccinia recondita) the lines 4, 6 and 8 (Alondra-S-46 x BH 1146), 9, 13, 16, 19 and 23 (CNT 6 x Jupateco) to powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis tritici) the lines 2 and 3 (CNT 9 - Alondra-S-46), 6 and 7 (Alondra-S-46 x BH 1146) 9 and 10 (Jupateco x IAC 5), 12 (CNT 9 x IRN 33-70), 16, 18 (CNT 9 [(Sonora 63 x IAS 20) x IAC 2)] and 23 (CNT 6 x Jupateco) and to leaf spot (Bipolaris sorokiniana) the line 18. The lines 2, 6, 7, 11 (CNT 9 x IRN 33-70) showed semidwarftype. The inbred lines 4, 5 (Alondra-S-46 e BH 1146), 6, 8, 13, 14 (Alondra-S-46 x Unknown), 15, 16, 17 (IAC-18 x Precoz Paran B INTA), 19, 20 and 22 (CNT-6 x Jupateco) and the cultivars BH 1146 and IAC 24 were the most tolerant in relation to Al3+ toxicity. ln relation to Fe toxicity the most tolerant genotypes were: 1, 10, 19 and 21 (CNT-6 x Jupateco) and the cultivar Siete Cerras (included in these tests as control)
