Manaecacestus jacabi sp. n. is described as a parasite of the small intestine of capybara (Hydrochaerus hydrochaeris) from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The new species most closely resembles M. hagmani, M. macrabursatum and M. minar. It differs from South American species of the genus in the size of strobila, opening of the genital atria, disposition of testes and size of proglottides.
