The monster Preciado and the questions posed to Psychoanalysis

The article analyzes Paul B. Preciado’s critique of psychoanalysis in Can the Monster Speak, focusing on his denunciation of the discipline’s affiliation with the epistemology of sexual difference as a normative framework. The discussion questions the current relevance of the psychoanalytic conception of sexual difference in light of contemporary sociopolitical and subjective transformations. The monster’s critique is treated as an opportunity to reconsider the epistemic foundations of psychoanalysis in the face of ongoing mutations in the fields of gender and sexuality. It is argued that psychoanalysis can recover its critical force by listening to what persists as unrepresentable.
