Article Mapping interpreter training worldwide: A bibliometric study (1992–2021) Li, Jie Tao, Yuan Du, Xuhan Feng, Liangzhu Resumo em Inglês: Abstract Drawing on data from the Web of Science Core Collection and employing bibliometric analysis, this paper visualizes and examines 1,210 international academic publications on interpreter training from 1992 to 2021. It traces the field’s development through key indicators such as publication volume, national distribution of authorship, research hotspots, and emerging trends. The findings reveal that: (1) scholarly output in this area has increased significantly; (2) the distribution of research is geographically uneven, with the majority of publications originating from the United States, Spain, and the United Kingdom. International collaboration remains limited, as evidenced by the relatively low number of co-authored papers across countries; (3) current research primarily concentrates on community interpreting, training models, and computer-assisted interpreter training; and (4) emerging trends highlight innovations in research paradigms, greater integration of theoretical perspectives, and the adoption of mixed research methods. The study offers insights for interpreter training in China, emphasizing the need to prioritize community interpreter education from an interdisciplinary perspective, adopt a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods in traditional research, and engage with cutting-edge developments in interpreter training within the context of human-machine interaction. |

Article Translating information technology expressions from English to Arabic: Strategies for bridging linguistic gaps Muftah, Muneera Resumo em Inglês: Abstract Despite the prevalence of English in the field of information technology, Arabic translators face considerable challenges due to the lack of standardized Arabic equivalents for many information technology expressions, outdated dictionary entries, and delayed arabization efforts. This study examines the challenges and strategies involved in translating technical terms from English to Arabic within the computer science and internet technologies, specifically within the Arabic-speaking regions. By analyzing “Limited Access” texts—non-specialized materials such as web proposals, price quotes, and agreements—it investigates how semantic gaps between the two languages shape the translation process. The findings reveal that translators navigate these issues by employing strategies such as amplification, explication, and transliteration. Specifically, while transliteration ensures familiarity with widely recognized terms, amplification and explication serve to enhance clarity and usability for non-specialist audiences. Consequently, this study contributes to bridging linguistic gaps in second language contexts by demonstrating how translators balance linguistic accuracy with contextual relevance, tailoring translations to meet the needs of the target audience while preserving the functional intent of the source text. Moreover, it adds to the field of technical translation by identifying key linguistic and cultural factors that influence the translation of information technology content. Importantly, it underscores the need for institutional efforts to replace transliterations with standardized Arabic terms and further offers valuable insights into effective translation practices within the information technology sector. |

Resumo em Inglês: Abstract The text discusses issues related to the translation of Takuboku Ishikawa’s (1886–1912) tanka poems into Portuguese, highlighting the dynamics and implications of a collaboratively conducted translation. The translation in question, Tankas ([1985]1988), was carried out by the Japanese-Brazilian Masuo Yamaki (?-?), who was responsible for a version that remained closer to the source text of Takuboku’s verses, and by the Afro-Brazilian poet Paulo Colina (1950–1999), who was in charge of modifying Yamaki’s initial version through revision, arrangement, adaptation, and restructuring. The argument is made that the collaborative translation process, as a form of translaboration, despite also involving certain power imbalances, fosters an entanglement of diverse positions that, even in conflict, contribute to the construction of something that is only possible through this collective process. This text thus proposes that Yamaki and Colina’s translation of Takuboku’s poems may offer glimpses of a critical/dissident cosmopolitanism that, through translaboration, finds (re)new(ed) ways to transform (and thus intensify) the Japanese author’s poetics. In this process, the fruitful encounter of differences enables the creation of something new through collaboration (between translators, but also between them and the original text), rather than the overcoming of their respective differences. |

Article Translating the Book of Mormon into Spanish: A case study of the translation of sacred texts González-Núñez, Gabriel Resumo em Inglês: Abstract The translation of sacred texts is one of the oldest forms of translation, one which has helped develop our understanding of what translation is. Even so, the question arises as to whether there is anything particularly distinctive about translating sacrality. On the one hand, it can be argued that translating sacred texts is just like translating any other historical or cultural texts (Naudé, 2010). On the other hand, it can be argued that the translation of sacred texts deserves its own category because, for some members of the population, these texts play a special role (Long, 2013). This study seeks to address this question of whether the translation of sacred texts presents a unique case. The study will focus on one aspect of this question, specifically, is there anything distinctive about the process of translating sacred texts? To do this, the study will present the translation of the Book of Mormon into Spanish as a case study. Methodologically, the case study will rely on Actor-Network Theory to describe the translation process in terms of its actors, transfers, and manipulations (see Gonne, 2018). This exploration will allow for some helpful conclusions to the question at hand. |

Article Rethinking dubbing workflows: The tentative role of pre-editing in machine-translated content Mejías-Climent, Laura Romero-Muñoz, Alejandro Resumo em Inglês: Abstract The DubTA project investigates the integration of neural machine translation into dubbing workflows. Given that audiovisual translation has historically been less permeable to machine translation due to its inherently creative and multimodal nature, this article first reviews the recent increase in automation technologies within audiovisual translation. This context motivated the DubTA project, whose methodology and preliminary findings are presented here. The primary goal of DubTA is to evaluate the feasibility of incorporating machine translation into dubbing processes. To this end, raw output generated by two machine translation engines was analyzed, with errors systematically categorized using a custom taxonomy to identify areas suitable for potential pre-editing in fictional dubbing scripts. Based on these findings, the project explores the possibility of developing pre-editing guidelines that could help enhance machine translation output and facilitate dubbing workflows by reducing the need for extensive post-editing. While promising, these results highlight the need for further research to refine these preliminary guidelines and assess their impact on diverse dubbing scenarios. |

Resumo em Inglês: Abstract This article analyzes the editorial strategies for positioning Won-pyung Sohn’s novel Amêndoas in the Brazilian literary system, based on the production of digital paratexts by Rocco. Based on Descriptive Translation Studies (Lefevere, 1992; Toury, 2012), Paratext Theory (Batchelor, 2018; Genette, 2009) and Hallyu Studies (Jin, 2021; Mazur, 2023), the work investigates how the work was associated with other Korean cultural products in the context of Hallyu 3.0. The selected corpus comprises the publisher’s Instagram posts, analyzed from a multimodal translatory perspective (Kaindl, 2020), also considering the processes of recombinant appropriation in digital media (Voigts, 2017). The results show that the publisher employed paratextual strategies that emphasize the book’s relationship with other Korean cultural products, incorporating visual and discursive references to the countr’'s culture and exploring its reception in the Brazilian publishing market. The study shows how paratextual manipulation guides the reception of translated literature and reinforces the influence of digital dynamics on the construction of the image of works. |

Resumo em Inglês: Abstract Several studies indicate that sign language interpreters show a clear preference for interpreting into sign languages and perceive it to be of higher quality than the opposite direction, despite the fact that it is not their mother tongue and they feel less competent in it. This phenomenon seems to be influenced by various factors, such as work experience and the focus of training, which apparently prioritizes this direction of interpreting. Given the retrospective nature of the professionals' opinions, this study aims to investigate the directionality preferences in Spanish Sign Language (LSE) interpreting from the perspective of future interpreters. To this end, a non-experimental, exploratory-descriptive research was conducted, focusing on students of the Spanish Sign Language and Deaf Community degree at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, the only official training of its kind in Spain. Based on the quantitative analysis of a questionnaire administered to 71 individuals, we found that the results reflect the same trends observed in professionals: students prefer interpreting into LSE and perceive it to be of higher quality, even though it is not their dominant language. They also consider classroom practice in interpretation directions to be unbalanced, with greater emphasis on interpreting from Spanish into LSE. The main conclusions highlight the need to delve into the factors that influence preferences, the use and mastery of working languages, actual performance in interpreting, and the correlation between these issues, in order to implement effective improvements in training programs for sign language interpreters. |

Article José Saramago’s reception in Türkiye: The case of Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira, Körlük Gökce, Imren Resumo em Inglês: Abstract The Portuguese writer José Saramago has been very popular in Türkiye in recent years, especially with his dystopic novel Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira, Körlük in Turkish. The distance between Portuguese languages, literature, and cultures combined with Saramago’s distinct writing style, his atheism and communist worldview may make his positive reception in Türkiye seem somewhat unexpected. This paper aims to explain this phenomenon from a social psychological perspective by applying the social representations concept (Moscovici, 1988) to the reception of translated literature and relying on the netnographic method (Kozinets et al., 2014). The findings show that the success of Saramago and Körlük is not a coincidence but a result of trust and shared representations resulting from the interaction among the actors of reception, namely translation agents, professional and non-professional readers. The study also offers insights about how readers read translations and Turkish readers’ representations of translation and translators. |

Article Medical interpreting in assisted reproduction clinics in Spain: Female interpreters’ experiences and roles López, Laura Resumo em Inglês: Abstract This article examines the role of interpreters in private assisted reproduction clinics in Spain, a sector that attracts international patients due to the high quality of the healthcare system and favourable legislation. Based on questionnaires and interviews with more than twenty professionals in the field, the study explores both working conditions and the specific tasks carried out by interpreters in a highly specialised and emotionally sensitive environment. The findings reveal a predominantly female professional profile, with interpreters undertaking responsibilities that go beyond translation and interpreting. Furthermore, despite strong appreciation from patients and medical staff, interpreters report a lack of institutional recognition. The study highlights the need for greater professionalisation, regulation, and institutional acknowledgement of the interpreter’s role in this context, emphasising their crucial contribution to healthcare quality and intercultural communication. |

Resumo em Inglês: Abstract In general terms, academia has not addressed in detail the process of reworking the authorial figure in cases of translated dramatic texts. This article seeks to shed light on this issue, particularly through the analysis of the testimonial play Cosas pesadas caen (2018a) by the Argentine playwright Patricio Ruiz, and its English translation, titled Heavy Things Fall (2018b), by Lydia Sue Stevens. Using the theoretical tools provided by the dialogic approach to argumentation and polyphony (García Negroni et al., 2023) and queeriture studies (Badenes & Chrysanthopoulos, 2021), this article examines the heteroglossic nature of the source text and the portrayal of the playwright as a dissident masculinity (Hernández Galván & Vargas Silva, 2021), who is positioned as an activist challenging patriarchal norms. The study shows that the translation attenuates the multiculturalism of the original publication and reworks the gender identity attributed to the author, particularly by softening his militant stance. Moreover, the article explains that the extent of these changes exposes the presence of the translator, who appears as someone who assumes their creative role and is also portrayed as disregarding the need to reproduce certain crucial aspects of the source text in their translation. |
