A critique of the anthropology of knowledge: experience and research

Uma crítica à Antropologia do conhecimento: experiência e pesquisa

This article sets out to analyse a number of research approaches in light of Tim Ingold’s provocations regarding anthropology as both a means of knowledge production and a field of knowledge, in communion and correspondence with life, people and things. Drawing from fourteen years of experience in different knowledge traditions - especially Capoeira Angola - I reflect on how these ways of knowing connect with academic practices and their specific professional methods. Ethnographic premises, I argue, especially those developed through autoethnography, should not be dismissed on the basis of Ingold’s critique of ethnography. Finally, the article proposes that an expanded notion of knowledge can contribute to rethinking the epistemology of academic traditions, especially within Ethnography and Sociology.
