Legislative production in the JK government (1956-1961)

The article focuses on the role of the Legislative Branch in producing laws, during the government of president Juscelino Kubitschek, an aspect neglected by specialized literature. Our objective is to present indicators of i) dominance rate of powers in legislative production; ii) the thematic scope of the proposed policies; iii) distribution by geographic region of origin of the parliamentarians initiating projects and; iv) thematic similarity of the policies proposed by the Executive Branch and federal deputies. This is a descriptive analysis, accompanied by some statistical tests. The results point to a more proactive action by deputies than is normally assumed for the period in question.
