Demobilization and revolt: the mutiny of Brazilian troops on the return from Cisplatina (1831)This article analyzes the particularities that permeate the military mutiny of the 1st line troops who were returning from the Cisplatine War and were on the island of Santa Catarina in 1831. The mutiny on the night of April 22 to 23 of that year, which demanded the deposition of the provincial president and the governor of Arms and the payment of overdue salaries, occurred when news arrived of the abdication of dom Pedro I. By listing the factors that led to the revolt, it is concluded that it was generated by general and specific elements and carried out by officers and soldiers who were more politicized after participating in the Brazilian campaign and knew how to take advantage of the imperial political change to demand what they considered their rights.
