RESUMO O presente artigo é parte do trabalho sobre população que desenvolvemos para o Plano Diretor do Município de Juiz de Fora. Trata-se de um estudo inicial, no nível de um diagnóstico, sobre as principais características da população do município, sua dinâmica demográfica, seu ritmo de crescimento e o importante papel que a migração assume na composição de sua população total.

ABSTRACT This paper registers part of a research on population, developed for the Municipal Directive Plan of Juiz de Fora. It's a first approximation, on the level of a diagnosis, informing about the most important features of municipal population, it's demographic dynamic and the important role migration plays on the composition of the whole population.

RESUMO O MOVIMENTO PRÓ-CIDADANIA DE RIO CLARO é uma organização composta por trinta e cinco (35) entidades da sociedade civil, liderada por docentes do Laboratório de Planejamento Municipal/DPR/IGCE e pelo presidente da subsecção da ordem dos Advogados do Brasil-Rio Claro. O PRÓ-CIDADANIA, a partir de ensaios desenvolvidos pela CETESB, denunciou a ocorrência de BORO nos mananciais de água que abastecem a população urbana do município. Estudos mais aprofundados demonstraram que tal contaminação atinge a área de captação que serve à população. O BORO é uma substância que compõe a Hidroboracita, mineral importado da Argentina por empresa dos Estados Unidos, a OWENS-CORNING FIBERGLAS, utilizada para fabricação de fibras de vidro. Até 1990, a empresa se utilizou de uma vossoroca localizada na Granja Rosada, com autorização da Prefeitura Municipal de Rio Claro, para depositar seus rejeitos do processo produtivo. A empresa informou que depositava no local apenas resíduos "inertes e não perigosos". Contudo, dentro da vossoroca há uma nascente que está com suas águas comprometidas pelas substâncias químicas. Este trabalho apresenta os resultados das pesquisas desenvolvidas pelo Laboratório de Planejamento Municipal, assessorando o MOVIMENTO PRÓ-CIDADANIA, demonstrando a contaminação dos mananciais; o risco para a saúde da população; os desrespeitos à legislação vigente; apresentando um conjunto de propostas para aplicação imediata, de médio e curto prazos.

ABSTRACT This work is about a citizenship action upon an environmental issue held in Rio Claro, a medium-sized town in the State of São Paulo - Brazil. The environmental problem was chemical pollution caused by an industrial waste disposal site located inadequately in a water stream with erosion undergoing (gully erosion). This site was sealed in 1990 after a legal process. In 1995, a CETESB's report (the state authority in charge of environmental management in São Paulo) detected boron (B) in the upper stream course of the city's water system. Samples showed the presence of boron in the water stream beyond international and Brazilian standards. The anathema was between the negation of the problem by the firm(a transnational fiberglass producer) that used that waste disposal site in one side. In the other, a citizenship movement (the so-called Movimento Pró-Cidadania de Rio Claro-MPCRC), with the support of the Laboratory of Municipal Planning-UNESP, which released the supposed "confidential" report. Nevertheless, public information on environmental issues is often strongly guaranteed by Brazilian laws. The MPCRC managed by sensitizing press and community to force Prefecture to receive studies on the matter. They included a diagnostic and a wide scope of measures to deal with the problem. This essay is about this report, worked out by a multidisciplinary team, rendered to the Municipal Secretary of Development, Environment and Planning.

RESUMO Duas concepções divergentes guiam atualmente o debate sobre a melhor configuração de Sistemas Geográficos de Informação no mercado: a primeira, tradicional, de planos de informação independentes, com uma concepção livre e aberta para denominação e hierarquização dos dados; a segunda, mais recente e ainda em construção, de orientação a objeto, que estipula uma tipificação e hierarquização prévia dos dados. É propósito deste trabalho realizar uma análise mais aprofundada dos pressupostos subsistentes neste novo enfoque e um confronto com a natureza dos dados ambientais de modo a se poder julgar preliminarmente sua adequação à pesquisa ambiental.

ABSTRACT Two different conceptions guide presently the debates about the best configuration of Geographic Information Systems: the first one, traditional, based on independent data layers, with an open and free conception for naming and hierarchizing data; the second one, more recent and still in consolidation, based on object orientation, defines rules to previously make groups and hierarchies of the data. It is the purpose of this article to make a deeper analysis of the subsistent principles to this new look and to make a confront with the nature of environmental data such a way to be able to judge preliminarily its adequacy to environmental research.

RESUMO O estudo das idéias na história do Pensamento Brasileiro objetiva estabelecer grandes linhas teóricas e metodológicas que direcionem a Geografia. É cada vez maior o interesse por esses estudos nas universidades. Nesta condição é que incluímos o estudo sobre Euclides da Cunha.

RESUMO Este artigo refere-se à caracterização dos pequenos produtores de leite "C" em Uberlândia, responsáveis pela maior parte do leite produzido no município. Mostra também o papel desempenhado pela CALU (Cooperativa Agropecuária de Uberlândia) no processo de comercialização do leite na região.

ABSTRACT This paper refers to the characteristics of small dairy farmers who, in Uberlandia, are responsible for most of the milk produced there. It also shows the role played by CALU (Cooperative of Uberlandia) in the milk commercialization process in the region.

RESUMO O artigo examina a implantação da Usina Hidrelétrica de Serra da Mesa, no norte do Estado de Goiás, procurando situar alguns problemas sociais e ambientais advindos do alagamento e do conseqüente deslocamento populacional que ali se realizará. O texto aponta que possivelmente a escolha da 'área' de Serra da Mesa derivou do fato dela ser um dos 'locais' mais pobres e frágeis da importante economia e do politicamente relevante Estado de Goiás; e, simultaneamente, como resposta às necessidades da dinamicidade econômica não apenas goiana, como regional. Por fim, sem opor-se às necessidades econômico-energéticas que o crescimento econômico regional suscit(ou)a, o texto deixa no ar a preocupação quanto à necessidade de que muito ainda há que fazer no tocante as relações Estado-Sociedade e, no caso, no que tange a uma efetiva ocupação democrática do território nacional.

ABSTRACT The article examines the implantation of the Serra da Mesa's Hidreletric Plant, in the north of Goiás, missing to establish some social and environment problems resultants of the inundation and of the subsequent dislocation of the population. The text points that, possiblely, the source of the area of the Serra da Mesa has been resulted from the fact that it is one of the poorest and fragilest place of the important economy and of the political's expression of the State of the Goiás; and, simultaneously, as answer to the economic dynamic's necessity not only of the State of the Goiás, but whole region. At last, without opposing the energetic-economic necessity that the regional economic's growth suscited, the text points, in addition, the preoccupation about the necessity of more politics actions for the State and Society relations to be bettered and with effective democratization of the occupation of the national territory.

RESUMO Este artigo retrata as transformações espaciais da cidade de Uberlândia, sobretudo aquelas decorrentes da acumulação do capital comercial. A cidade cresceu e desenvolveu-se até os anos 50 sob o signo do comércio e à medida que se expandiam os mercados, modificavam-se as estruturas econômicas, acirrava-se o discurso progressista das elites locais e, assim sendo, era preciso reformular a forma urbana. As mudanças almejavam o progresso e a modernidade e fundamentavam-se na expansão das relações capitalistas e no embelezamento da paisagem urbana.

ABSTRACT This paper shows the spacial transformation of Uberlandia City, specially those decurrents from commercial capitalist accumulation. The city grew up and developed up to the fifty's under the sign of business and as the market expanded, the economical structures changed, the progressive ideas of local upper classes got raised and it was necessary to change the urban format. The changes aimed to progress and modernization and they were based on the expansion of capitalist relations and in the "beauty" of the urban landscape.
