Anti-gender offensives under two analytical movements: commentary on the article “There’s an alligator in the bathroom”: moral panics, prohibitionist grammars, and threats to the public circulation of trans bodies

This text is a commentary on the article “‘There’s an alligator in the bathroom’: moral panics, prohibitionist grammars, and threats to the public circulation of trans bodies,” by Solluá Borges de Souza and Regina Facchini (Souza e Facchini 2025), published in the issue 41 of Sexualidad, Salud y Sociedad – Revista Latinoamericana. In this commentary, which followed the issuance of a review of the article, I address two analytical movements identified by the authors that seem central to unveiling the contemporary dynamics of anti-gender offensives: the use of the analytical category “prohibitive grammar” and its understanding within longer-lasting social phenomena related to the noti on of the State.
