Transmasculinities and testosterone: a game of confrontations in the construction of a body project

Abstract

Abstract  The article analyzes the way in which the processes of hormoneization with testosterone intervene in the identity construction of transmasculinity, in a scenario of depathologization and dejudicialization of transsexuality. Based on semi-structured interviews with transmasculinities in the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina, access to testosterone and the characteristics assumed by the exercise of trans bio-citizenship are reconstructed. Then, the somatic effects that the interviewees identify are detailed to account for the way in which the generic attributions of testosterone rest on the rhetoric of the hormonal body while at the same time allowing them to imagine a desired body project.
