“Tutti Fratelli, ma non tropo”: clashes and accommodations on gender and politics between conservatives and progressives in the Catholic Church in Brazil

This article seeks to consider, within the issues of politics and gender, the mosaic of positions within the Catholic Church in Brazil: ultraconservative, moderate and progressive in a dynamic correlation of forces. As a time frame, it chooses the period from 2018 to the present year. It also chooses the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) as the privileged forum for the clashes and agreements involving these forces. It also seeks to focus on the reality of the Vatican and the pontificate of Pope Francis and their impact on Brazilian Catholicism. Finally, it seeks to detect that depending on the issues: social or moral and customary, different arrangements can be established between the forces that make up Brazilian Catholicism.
