Open-access The divine within the human and the human within the divine: outline of a Pentecostal Christian cosmology

Abstract

Abstract: This article presents a reflection on the relationship between man and divinity in the Christian Pentecostal cosmology. Settled on my ethnographic experience of almost two years with the Pentecostals of an Assembly of God, I, first of all, present the description believers give about the human myth of origin in Genesis, in order to show the relation of this explanation with the Pentecostal doctrine of “little gods”. The article ends by making a dialogue with the renewed discussion that contemporary anthropology has made about the concepts of animism and perspectivism.

Keywords:
Pentecostalism; believers; perspectivism; animism
