The article reflects about the fields of anthropology of socio-environmental and climate education and anthropology of religion and its relation to the public space. It provides a historical overview of the environmental movement in Brazil over the past two decades and presents a case study of a Brazilian civil society initiative that promotes the engagement of religious communities as political agents in the climate change arena. The article highlights the role of religions and traditional knowledges in the emergence of epistemologies that inspire new debates in the public sphere. Furthermore, it engages with the field of anthropology of development to examine the role of anthropology in intersections between ethnography, activism, polycrisis, complex systems, and public policy.
