The text proposes to think about the imaginary and poetics of the sertões, searching in language for a symbolic framework for reflection on dwelling. When questioning the phenomenological soil of the sertões one soon realizes the sublime nature of the landscape, evoking the wonderful and harsh character of the divide between earth and sky. This dimension becomes a provocation in the face of the place that the sertão occupies in Brazilian thought, that is, one must look at rustic world as the opposite of modernity. From this perspective opens up the rupture between the sertão and the city.
