Cycles and structural changes in the Brazilian post-war economy: the recent crisis

The objective of this essay is to describe and analyze the main trends and transformations in the Brazilian economy in the period following the Second World War. The first part briefly outlines the basic antecedents of Brazilian economic growth in recent decades, as well as the main structural problems that are present today. It also suggests the fundamental characteristics that result from the presence of two key players in the Brazilian economic scenario: the State and transnational corporations. The Second Part describes the major cycles observed in the post-war period, analyzing the factors and conditions that explain the main turning points or phases. The last section outlines the main characteristics of the recent evolution of the Brazilian economy, as well as the conditions for an alternative development strategy. This is the second part of the study. The first part was published in the last number of this journal.
