Open-access Making a career as a sociologist in France in the 1960s-70s: A study of Abdelmalek Sayad’s professional career

This article analyzes the professional career of Algerian sociologist Abdelmalek Sayad, based on research archives. Based on this case study, it examines the conditions under which sociologists entered the profession in the 1960s-70s, to better understand the ordinary and extraordinary conditions encountered by researchers at the start of their careers and after joining the Centre National des Recherches Scientifiques (CNRS).
