Prosthetic incorporations according to Paul B. Preciado: to end Nature

By blurring the distinction between sex and gender, Paul B. Preciado proposes that the concept of sex is the product of a set of technologies which produces gender materiality under the appearance of Nature. We explore the way in which Thomas Laqueur’s thesis about the creation of the modern concept of sex can provide tools to understand the preciadian concept of sex. Based on this proposal, we suggest that the concept of sex, according to Preciado, consists in a prosthetic incorporation of gender. However, this last definition is not limited to the modern notion of sex, since it continues and becomes even more evident in pharmacopornographic capitalism. Thus, we seek to understand what the author defines as “prosthetic incorporations” and, finally, how it is possible to make subversive uses of them.
