Open-access The Police Information System and intimate partner violence

The gaps in the production of official information about intimate partner violence constitute one of the greatest challenges in dealing with the problem. In this sense, information systems on violence against women are fundamental instruments in the production of official statistics, which aid in planning, decision-making, and the evaluation and monitoring of measures already adopted. Thus, this article aimed to analyze the Information System of the Civil Police Secretariat of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the construction of statistics on intimate partner violence (IPV) produced by the complex of Public Security institutions. We conclude that the incorporation of the intersectional approach by the police information system is necessary for the construction of accurate and inclusive statistics on the phenomenon.
