Violence, suffering and (re)existences: narratives of travestis and trans womenTransgender people are exposed to different forms of violence that generate suffering. This is a collective and dialectic phenomenon of subjugation and resistance strategies. We interviewed 15 trans women living in the metropolitan area of Salvador-BA. Their narratives were analyzed from the perspective that reality is not something given a priori, but a result of daily performative practices that involve different actors/actants. We identified that social suffering is related to physical, psychological, and sexual violence, discrimination, prostitution, and difficulties in access to health care. In this context, strategies of (re)existence are developed. Therefore, we conclude that transgender women experience daily situations of vulnerability and violence that cause suffering and, at the same time, open acting possibilities that dynamically reconfigure reality at the moment of interaction.
