Open-access Military Spirit, virility and the manifestation of dissident subjects: possible dialogues

This essay aims to problematize and carry out a theoretical reflection on the concept of military spirit, articulating it with studies of gender and sexual diversity, considering the scope of the Armed Forces. To do this, we will seek to point out contradictions involving pre-established regulations in militarized/virilized contexts, with these contradictions being possible ways of subverting them. We start from the assumption that historically militarized contexts are considered conservative and permeated by cisheterosexist logics, which cross the processes of subjectivation. With this, one can consider the production of territories in dispute, as, on the one hand there is the existence of a militarized and conservative culture, on the other there are resistance movements in favor of guaranteeing rights with regard to sexual and gender diversity.
