Abstract in Portuguese:

■RESUMO A proposta deste trabalho é mostrar que são observadas alterações vocais durante o climatério e que, dentre elas, a que mais interfere na qualidade da comunicação é a variabilidade da freqüência fundamental, decorrente dos efeitos horp>monais que, por sua vez, causam influência sobre a laringe. A ação dos diferentes hormônios se faz sentir em cada órgão, função da fonação e nas respostas neuromusculares. O estado emocional das mulheres climatéricas é instável e crítico. Para esta fase de mudanças biológicas que desencadeiam processos psicológicos inevitáveis propõe-se o apoio de uma equipe multidisciplinar, para se atingir o equilíbrio e amenizar as perturbações existenciais. O tratamento fonoaudiológico concomitante à administração hormonal é importante para a melhoria na qualidade vocal.

■ ABSTRACT The relevance of this paper is to demonstrate that vocal alternations happen to occur during the climacterium and, among these alternations, the one interfering mostly on the quality of communication is the variability of the voice fundamental freqüency caused by hormonal effects which specially affects the larynx. lt's noticiable how the action of different hormones influences the organism in general, function of the fonation and neuro-muscular replies. These changes cause unrefrained biological and psychological alternations. Climacteric women are emotionally unbalanced and their sensitive responses are criticai, Únpredictable and unstable. Because of that they should undergo a medical aid supported by a team of physicians so that they could reach the stability and relieve existential disturbances. The voice therapy applied together with the hormonal administration is an important tool to improve the vocal quality that is normally affected by the changes occurring along with the climacterium.
