Open-access Journey into the Solar System

Abstract

Learning assessments reveal that models used to describe motions in the Solar System and the scientific explanations that account for the basic astronomic phenomena are poorly known by kids and adults. Astronomy is a subject present in many curricular prescriptions for elementary school, and is always surrounded by interest when presented in schools and informal learning spaces. In this paper, we discuss what is known about teaching and learning basic astronomic phenomena, and describe the development and production of a video using Celestia, a free and open software, in a journey into the Solar System.
