On the Lorentz-Fitzgerald contraction

Abstract

We discuss the Lorentz-Fitzgerald contraction in the context of the Fresnel's ether and special relativity. We intend to clarify some mistakes that can occur in the understanding of the relation among length contraction, ether and special relativity.
