Parents Implemented Intervention and Autism: National Studies Review

The Parent Implemented Intervention (PII) shows positive evidence with autistic children. However, to achieve the same results in practice as those described in the research, it is important to consider the fidelity, that is, how much the application followed the steps of the original plan. The aim of this study was to analyze the characteristics of research on PII with people with autism in the Brazilian context. Through a systematic review, studies were coded according to participant characteristics, setting, designs, dependent and independent variables, measures of implementation and intervention fidelity, parent training components, social validity, and overall study results. The results showed that, although most studies used intra-subject experimental designs, only a small portion of them reported implementation fidelity or intervention fidelity. Thus, the characteristics of these studies are discussed in relation to the quality and rigor of research on PII in Brazil.
